Normally when something bad happens to an individual you feel some degree of pity for them. But then when that person is a {{Jerkass}} or an outright monstrous villain, when horrible things happen to them it's less sympathy and more satisfaction (or, at best, just plain apathy). They may or may not be [[HoistByHisOwnPetard directly responsible for their misfortunes]], but their behavior means something like this was going to happen eventually. This can range from the victim merely being a dick to them being a far worse criminal than the person they are a victim to. If there is a correlation, the response may or may not be {{disproportionate|retribution}}.

In other words, when a victim-shaped hole in the plot is filled with a character who is sufficiently repugnant, the audience feeling bad about what happened to them is unlikely. The character doesn't have to die or be brutalized, just that they suffer in some way. In some cases, "victim-shaped hole" can mean "victim of non-violent theft". If able to confront their attacker, there is a high likelihood [[ButForMeItWasTuesday they have no idea what earned their ire]].

Web Serial Novels and web stories go under Literature.

* Many of the people the ''Literature/BastardOperatorFromHell'' antagonizes are not very nice or honest people. In fact, this is exactly ''why'' so many of his schemes succeed; people that have substantial skeletons to hide in their closets are much easier to manipulate.
* ''Literature/TheCityOfNever'': Joe Candy is a seemingly unhinged thief who eventually resorts to murdering an innocent woman and tries to kill Daniel's children. He's later consumed by the Emperor of Ashen Rain, and isn't missed by anyone.
* ''Literature/JeffTheKiller'': Jeff's first kills were Randy, Keith, and Troy, a trio of bullies who went around mugging kids and threatening them with knives. After Jeff beat the crap out of them, they got his brother sent to Juvy, and later attacked him at a birthday party to try and kill him, threatening to shoot anyone if they interfered.

** ''Literature/TailsOfFame'': Rast Racklyn's first two victims are a pair of pranksters who filmed him having sex with them and later humiliated him by leaking the video online and showing the video across their college campus. No one's remotely concerned about their disappearance even a month after they're murdered.
** ''Literature/TailsOfTheBountyHunter'': Boris Trovmar was involved in various embezzlement schemes and even sexually harassed multiple women. No one's even slightly upset when Milz Dillvor assassinates him.
** ''Literature/TailsOfTheSpaceGladiators'': In chapter 3, a dozen inmates are in the process of being transferred into the Gladiator Detention Facility, and one of them openly brags that he's a serial killer who murdered fifteen humans and consumed their brains. One of the guards wastes no time activating his ExplosiveLeash immediately afterwards.
* ''Literature/{{TOT}}'': Toby and his gang are all shot in the head by Maximus Slade, but all three of them were vandals and shameless bullies. Sheriff Umberton and Tully are also violently killed in the penultimate chapter, but given that they intentionally ignored phone calls from the Green Water division and later tried to cover up the massacre there, they deserved it.
* ''Literature/Touch2017'' offers a deconstruction in the Lee interlude, where [[spoiler:James' rapist]] is burned alive for what he did. It's presented in a fairly sobering light.
* In ''Literature/AWorldLessVisible'', you can be forgiven for being upset Sima's death isn't horrible enough.

* While many characters in ''Roleplay/SurvivalOfTheFittest'' [[KillTheCutie clearly don't deserve getting killed]], there are also many who are enough of a {{Jerkass}} to the point where it's hard to sympathize with them. Some of these border on KarmicDeath, such as Anthony Burbank (who was repeatedly stabbed [[GroinAttack in the groin]] by the same cousin who he had bullied) and Philip Ward (beaten to death by [[MilesGloriosus Jimmy Brennan]], a character he had previously beaten up in a hockey game in [[DevelopingDoomedCharacters pre-game]]). Some people outright express pleasure that she's suffering, one calling it the best stream of the year and another [[NightmareFetishist asking if anyone else was getting a boner]]. Dr. Harper notes that he feels no need to join that particular website now.

* Alex Kralie from ''WebVideo/MarbleHornets'' definitely qualifies as one. He murdered Jay, Seth, Sarah, Amy, and a man in Rosswood park, indirectly causing Brian's death, and attempting to murder Tim, Jessica, and Brian, yet he still was just another of The Operator's victims when you get down to it.
* Fanfic/OldManHenderson, the living embodiment of [[OffTheRails plot derailment]], was originally created as a revenge plot against a particularly dickish KillerGameMaster who'd, among other actions, killed off the player's previous character because "[the aforementioned player] actually disagreed with [the GM's] self-insert fetish-fuel character with two katanas!" * ''WebVideo/SgtDucky'': Discussed, when Tony returned from the hospital and explained why he had to walk home, Ducky tells the audience that neither he nor his friends felt too bad for him because of what happened during the party since he nearly got them all arrested. The incident where he got vomited on during a house party is famous among the boys because they saw it as divine punishment from the god of brotherhood for betraying his oath to get their friend laid.

* ''WebVideo/SgtDucky'': Discussed, when Tony returned from All of Cody's victims in ''Literature/AngelOfDeath'' are criminals, and were killed in the hospital process of committing crimes. In particular, he has stopped at least one rape and explained why he at least one mugging. Then again, the narrative doesn't really treat them like they had to walk home, Ducky tells it coming, only like they're the audience that neither he nor his friends felt too bad best option available for him Cody because killing them means saving someone else.
* Many
of what happened during the people the ''Literature/BastardOperatorFromHell'' antagonizes are not very nice or honest people.

A notable aversion, though, would be Monty Pondsworth of v4 pre-game. Although he was the most prominent {{Jerkass}} in pre-game, he did not make an appearance on the island, much to the disappointment of many handlers.
