While he had long career acting on stage, Ingle didn't start appearing in films and on TV until he was in his 50s. Before then he was also a high school drama teacher at Hollywood High School (1955-64) and Beverly Hills High School (1964-85), with a stunningly long list of famous students, including Creator/AlbertBrooks, Creator/NicolasCage, Creator/JamieLeeCurtis, Creator/RichardDreyfuss, Creator/CarrieFisher, Creator/BarbaraHershey, Creator/JulieKavner, Creator/SwoosieKurtz, Creator/LaraineNewman, Creator/DavidSchwimmer and Creator/JonathanSilverman. He later worked with many of them when he switched to full-time acting, noting with amusement that, all those years later, they still refused to call him by his first name and referred to him as "Mr. Ingle."
