* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The Sloth-based Peccatulum were originally called Acediae, which is based on the Latin word for Sloth. However, since the Latin meaning in question also included vices that would be identifiable as Gloom instead, the name's changed to better befit it meaning Sloth specifically. This is retroactively applied to all other things that would use the word as well, given Dante's corresponding Sapling of Light ability calls it Pigritia.

** Up until Canto 6 Part 3, they were given Risk Classes as if they were another form of Abnormality. Now, their risk class is simply undefined, likely because they're closer to Distortions that Abnormalities with the traits they have (such as being mortal), and [[EliteMooks stronger forms]] are defined as higher stages of them instead.

* AllegoricalCharacter: Potentially one to Lobotomy Corporation and the concept of E.G.O. and Distortions as a whole. The Abnormality urges people to embrace their sins and vices wholeheartedly so that they can "bloom" and become beautiful, similar to how [[spoiler:under the influence of the Voice]], those who fully embrace their sins and self manifest E.G.O., while those overwhelmed by their sin become Distortions or Peccatula. Ominously enough, the term used for manifested personal E.G.O. in Limbus Company is "Effloresced", as in the blooming of a flower.

* AmbiguousSituation: For reasons unknown, the Spiral has an uncanny resemblance to Nagel und Hammer in terms of how it acts and fights. On top of using the same statuses and Sin affinities, it shares a "Gaze" debuff with Kromer (albeit functioning differently), with its other main debuff being "Grasp" to parallel the "gripping" themes of the organization and Kromer, not even counting one of its skills literally being named "It Shall Grip". Although it could be argued that Nagel und Hammer embodies the themes of the Abnormality with their zealous hatred and contempt towards prosthetic users, any actual connections haven't been elaborated on, nevertheless why it appears in a Refraction Railway completely disconnected from N. Corp.

* DamageSpongeBoss: The Spiral of Contempt has an incredibly beefy '''2570''' HP along with 0.7x resistances to all physical and Sin types, meaning that unless you're on the ball with exploiting its unique mechanics, it'll take a lot of time chipping the thing down. This mainly serves to encourage the player to interact with said mechanics letting you ''create'' weaknesses to speed up the fight, both to stay under the 100-turn count, and to quickly kill the Abnormality before its [[TurnsRed All-Beholding Gaze phase]] gets the better of your Sinners.

* CrueltyIsTheOnlyOption: In Mirror Dungeon encounters. No matter what's chosen, the Bull will suffer in some way, with the water aggravating it into thrashing around in frustration once it evaporates or the bulls plea for help being ignored as it continues to burn from within. Either option will reward you with its EGO gift, but force the party between a choice of guaranteed health or sanity damage.

Either option will reward you with its EGO gift, but force the party between a choice of guaranteed health or sanity damage. Mirror of the Wuthering adds a third option where Dante and the Sinners ''[[VideoGameCrueltyPotential drink the water in front of it]]'', which instantly enrages it to violence and triggers a fight.

* BullyingADragon: Starting from Mirror of the Wuthering, in addition to the non-hostile actions of receiving its gift or taking its wine for healing, the player gets a third option to slap the glass out of his hand and spill it. This royally pisses him off and instantly triggers a combat encounter with him.

* AmbiguousSituation: What exactly it's doing in its Mirror Dungeon event is ambiguous, as the doll will animate if either the talismans are pulled from both the walls or its own body, the former making it approach and reward you with a voluntary gift and the latter making it fall to its knees, its body language not making it clear whether it's thanking or begging you to not take them off.

Starting from Mirror of the Wuthering, taking off all the wall talismans causes it to attack you, further raising the question of what it wants with them.

* NonMaliciousMonster: The Drifting Fox encountered in the Mirror Dungeon acts more like an intelligent animal than an eldritch abomination as other Abnormalities are - the most damage it can do to you is bonking you with an umbrella if you pull one out of it, which actively hurts it. It's more than happy to simply be petted.

It's more than happy to simply be petted. Even in Mirror of the Wuthering, which adds another option to engage it in combat, it's described as non-confrontational until pushed too far.

* CrueltyIsTheOnlyOption: Both choices presented to the Sinners will harm the Abnormality badly, with a choice of button between overcharging the centipede with electricity or completely submerging it in water. The former will make it writhe in agony and possibly die from being overcharged, while the latter won't actually drown it but is implied to be incredibly painful as it's seem squirming and dancing in the pool from the electricity being conducted. Both of which will reward the Sinners nicely anyways, the former with the Standard Duty Battery and the latter with a permanent +1 Speed for the rest of the dungeon.

Starting from Mirror of the Wuthering, however, [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential mashing both repeatedly]] will instead cause the very angry Centipede to break out and initiate combat.

* BullyingADragon: Starting from Mirror of the Wuthering, in addition to approaching it and taking its slime, you can opt to scoop up the slime and chuck the bottle into its mouth. This causes it to immediately enrage and initiate a combat encounter.

* NonMaliciousMonster: It leaves disinterested and continues to mind its own business even as the Sinners try to approach it. Not so much when encountered during the dungeon of Canto V, however.

* BookWorm: It will stop at nothing to write its tome, it doesn't even notice or care that the Sinners are in the same room as it. When they start blowing out candles to shut out the lights, it's still fixated on writing. Even when all it has left is the light of its own fiery pen, and even when the Sinners blow its fire out, it's still holding onto its pen paying no mind to what's happening while scribbling in complete darkness with Sinners breathing over it.

It'll only notice if the Sinners gather the candles and unintentionally burn its book, causing it to instantly become hostile.

* AllegoricalCharacter: Given the name of it's E.G.O. and propensity to harm itself by ramming into the Flotsam of its own creation, the Abnormality is likely a physical representation of the obsession that drives both Ahab and Ishmael.

* AllegoricalCharacter: Given the name of it's E.G.O. and propensity to harm itself by ramming into the Flotsam of its own creation, the Abnormality is likely a physical representation of the obsession that drives both Ahab and Ishmael. Its Mirror Dungeon encounter shows that it's far more somber and cryptic compared to those two, but it still shares a recurring theme of blindly and endlessly chasing a sole obsession (in this case, light or fluorescence), under the belief that finding it will solve all of its problems.

* BenevolentMonsters: Whilst definitely not the case in-battle, in its dungeon encounter, if you fail to pass its check, it's willing to address the Sinners' supposed fears that prevent them from either fixing its lights or joining it, and rewards them a decent amount of HP and SP restoration in turn.

Even if you [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential yank out its fluorescent lights]], it's less aggressive and more hurt as it asks the player to return it, seemingly only starting a fight when they refuse.

* BullyingADragon: Starting from Mirror of the Wuthering, in addition to Hello or Goodbye, the player can write "Dumbass" on it screen instead, which immediately angers it enough to start a fight.

* {{Superboss}}: As the last new enemy and FinalBoss of the [[BrutalBonusLevel Refraction Railway Line 1]], My Form Empties pits the player against a particularly unorthodox gimmick that can take a bit to figure out and [[OneHitKill punishing if not]], mixed with flavors of FinalExamBoss.

* MortonsFork: In previous patches of the game, its EGO gift was inevitably to acquire no matter what you did. While powerful, it's certainly niche, as the gift will cut the duration of stagger in half in exchange for granting the attacking Sinners a massive amount of bleed to finish them off instead. For certain non-bleed teams this was far from ideal and could be a run-ender, until a later patch finally made it possibly to dodge the gift if you know what to do. The gift was later buffed to reduce offence levels by a massive amount in addition to the bleed, allowing you to easily prevent the extra attacks enemies would get in as a result of being unstaggered. Once fully upgraded at a rest stop it reduces defence levels as well.

Starting from Mirror of the Wuthering, there is now a third option that simply lets you end the encounter and leave right away, with the previous option instead starting a fight with the Gossypium itself and granting both its E.G.O. gifts.

* DontLookAtMe: As much as it hates humans, it's still placated if they look away from it, showing mercy and going along its way if the Sinners look at the ground instead of drawing out its wrath by looking at it like it wanted.
* {{Foil}}: Like Sign of Roses in Line 2, Spiral of Contempt is the FinalBoss of the Refraction Railway its in, and you have to work your way in the battle to weaken the abnormality's resistances, primarily through skill checks. However, Spiral of Contempt differs from Sign of Roses in many ways:
** Sign of Roses delegates [[FlunkyBoss Sin Affinity Roses]] to be the main threat, through resource draining and a OneHitKill gimmick that must be stopped on time, whilst it on its own has a pretty pitiful Offense Level. Spiral of Contempt works all on its own, being 8 levels above the Season 3 level cap of 40, and it even has two mass attack skills.

Added DiffLines:

* TooDumbToLive: Starting from Mirror of the Wuthering, instead of averting your gaze from it or continuing to stare at it, the player can choose to have a Sinner try to ''grab the Spiral''. This angers it even more than it would have been if they had just looked at it, and instead of "merely" damaging the Sinners with its hatred, it directly attempts to kill them and starts a combat encounter.

Added DiffLines:

* GoodAllAlong: The third event added by Mirror of the Wuthering shows that the Passenger isn't actually lost and knows where the exit to its area is, but stays there to guide ''others'' out. If the Sinners decide to try guiding it personally, it actually guides them to the exit even if the check is failed and bows to them out of gratitude if the check succeeds. Based on this and the fact the event that makes it actively hostile involves standing still, it's implied it only attacks the Sinners in some misguided attempt to MercyKill them before they [[AndIMustScream become like it]].
* NonMaliciousMonster: Pointing the way for it to go will result in it peacefully leaving and leaving behind an E.G.O. gift, while manually guiding it will actually result in it bowing out of gratitude and leaving behind a different E.G.O. gift with the narration saying that it might've actually been trying to guide ''the party'' towards the right exit. It's also worth noting that failing the check for the latter action will result in the chosen Sinner accidentally leading the group in a circle, to which the Passenger responds by beckoning the group towards the correct exit instead.

** As of The Mirror of Wuthering, Abnormalities that have both events and fights have a new option that essentially allows you to insult the Abnormality in some way. This results in a watered down fight against it, with your rewards being the typical EGO gift from before and a new one to go with it.

* OptionalBoss: Starting from ''Mirror of the Wuthering'', encountering an Abnormality that has a fightable version in one of the chance encounters will have an option (usually involving [[BullyingADragon intentionally pissing it off somehow]]) to engage it in battle, which will give you their original E.G.O. gift as well as an extra, special gift. You can get such options at any stage of the dungeon, [[EarlyBirdBoss including early on when you aren't exactly prepared to fight the stronger ones]], so if you choose to pick a fight, you'd ''best hope'' you can actually pull it off.

* AchillesHeel: Identities with Dodge defensive skills: its LifeDrain attack is Unclashable AND targets the same Sinner multiple times; this would make it a guaranteed hit that makes it heal itself on top of that - however, Dodge skills do NOT count as clashes and can be reused for multiple attacks targetting the same Sinner, meaning that a Sinner with that as a defensive can trivialize that mechanic and - with a bit of luck - make it so it will never heal.

* BrokenArmorBossBattle: The Ambling Pearl is protected by a shell that resists every type of attack in the game. To bypass it, you must destroy the slime it spews before it can swallow it back up. Once this is done, it will expose its weak point.
* MonsterIsAMommy: Speculated by the Sinners if they take a close look at their sample of slime, where they spot little creatures floating around. It's assumed that either the Abnormality is eating whatever is in the fluid, or is actively breeding itself in it. ! Mirror Dungeon Abnormalities & EGO

Abnormalities who only appear in Mirror Dungeons as random encounters, they cannot be fought but instead provide the Sinners a choice when it comes to interacting with them. These choices will often involve the Sinners being put through a skill check that will decide whether they take damage, leave without issue, gain an EGO gift or acquire some kind of buff or debuff for the remainder of the dungeon.
-----
[[folder: In General]]
* AffablyEvil: Some of these Abnormalities are bizarre and obviously sinister, but remain cordial and play fair within their set of rules.
* AlternateSelf: Implied Aberrations for multiple Abnormalities who appeared earlier in the series appear, typically working in the exact opposite logic as their original counterparts.
* CallBack: Multiple Abnormalities are referenced in some way despite not appearing themselves, typically in the form of EGO and EGO Gifts.
** The Sinners can encounter a lone, purple and self-powered vending machine whose drinks can be described as 'cheery', when used the products dispensed heal the team by 10-25 HP, depending on the floor. It's all but stated that this is Opened Can Of Wellcheers, a ZAYIN Abnormality last seen in ''Lobotomy Corporation''.
** One of the EGO gifts is a faded and old portrait of what looks like [[Literature/TheWonderfulWizardOfOz a meadow with a yellow brick road]], which has connection to at least ''six'' Abnormalities throughout the series, but is specifically the battleground for The Road Home and Scaredy Cat in ''Library of Ruina''.
** The Big and Will Be Bad Wolf has a cutesy plushie based off it as an EGO gift, which buffs the party by weakening the attacks of Bleeding opponents while allowing the user to inflict more damage against Bleeding opponents.
* NonMaliciousMonster: A recurring theme with Mirror Dungeon Abnormalities is that they, with some exceptions, are far less dangerous than average Abnormalities - while some may run on BlueAndOrangeMorality, some, like the Stray Fox, Fairy Gentleman and Sunset Wayfarer, are outright benevolent. In fact for a lot of them, ''you'' can (and sometimes [[CrueltyIsTheOnlyOption must]]) hurt them more than they can hurt you.
** Canto IV has Dante questioning why the Abnormalities met in Mirror Dungeon events don't attack, with Faust explaining that they're glimpses into an Abnormality's mental space and habitat through cracks in the mirrored world, which only allow for limited interaction. Were you to encounter the Abnormalities in any other situation, there's no telling if they'd be passive or not.
* TheUnfought: In Mirror Dungeons, Abnormalities can rarely attack or even permanently harm the visiting Sinners, leading to Abnormalities that currently only appear in this mode simply allowing the team to pass without any meaningful fight. However, previously Mirror Dungeon-exclusive Abnormalities such as the Brazen Bull, My Form Empties, etc. show that most, if not all Abnormalities encounters may eventually be fought.
* ViolationOfCommonSense: There's no telling what an Abnormality prefers without trying it first, and the correct or beneficial action is often a very bad idea under normal circumstances.
