Trivia / Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero

Go To

  • Casting Gag: Gamma 1, Gamma 2 and Dr. Hedo's Japanese voice actors voiced Tieria Erde, Setsuna F. Seiei and Non-Action Guy Saji Crossroad from Mobile Suit Gundam 00 respectively. Instead of Gundams, Tieria and Setsuna became Gammas instead while Saji remains as a Non-Action Guy.
    • An unintentional example. Adult Gohan's Ocean dub voice actor was Brad Swaile who voiced Setsuna in the dub of Gundam 00 while Piccolo's Ocean dub actor was Scott McNeil who voiced Ali Al-Saachez. The battle between Piccolo VS Gamma 2 could be seen as English dub Ali Al-Sacheez VS Japanese-dub Setsuna while Gohan vs Gamma 1 could be seen as English dub Setsuna VS Japanese dub Tieria.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor:
  • Channel Hop: The three films that preceded Super Hero were co-produced and co-distributed in Asia (including Japan) with 20th Century Fox, but Fox's film rights to the Dragon Ball franchise lapsed back to Toei after the Disney buyout. Now the film is distributed by Crunchyroll outside of Japan, including countries where Fox released the previous three films. This film is also the first Dragon Ball film to be distributed exclusively by Toei in Japan since 1996's Path to Power. That said, Disney still holds the distribution rights to the previous three films in select Asian territories.
    • Downplayed, but all previous films were distributed under Funimation, before they (among many other companies) were merged with Crunchyroll.
  • Cross-Regional Voice Acting: The English dub uses voice actors from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, as well as the Greater Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay areas.
  • Delayed Release Tie-In: Dragon Ball Legends had a collaboration that was released on time back when the film was originally set for an April release. Due to the movie's delay, the only thing Legends could really release at the time were Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 as playable characters, and nothing else, as Pan, Power Awakened Piccolo, and Gohan Beast had to be delayed until a much later Part 2 of the collaboration was announced. The sudden shift in plans has resulted in the player base having potentially Mis-blamed the delay for the reason why the game's 4th anniversary was lackluster.
  • Meaningful Release Date: Two, likely unintentional ones.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: A few Goku cuts on Beerus' planet are omitted in the final movie. Some examples include a backside shot of Goku flipping away from Broly's ground pound, or this 2D corrected shot.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • In the English dub:
    • In the Latin American Spanish dub:
      • Luis Manuel Ávila voices Gohan, replacing the tragically late Luis Alfonso Mendoza.
      • Luis Daniel Ramírez doesn't reprise his role as Yajirobe, due to being banned from the dubbing studio, Audiomaster Candiani (and many more), following several accusations of sexual harassment. The role were recast with Ricardo Rocha.
      • Combined with Role Reprise, Jocelyn Robles, who dubbed Android 18 in the first part of Z Kai, replaced the late Mónica Villaseñor (who died in February 2022) as the character's official voice, being also one of the few actors who were in the infamous dub of the first part of Z Kai who returned to voice the same character permanently.
      • Shenron is voiced by Óscar Gómez instead of Abel Rocha, who succumbed to natural causes in November 2021.
    • Italian dub:
      • Pan is voiced by Chiara Fabiano instead of Federica Valenti.
      • Korin is voiced by Massimo Corizza instead of Pietro Ubaldi.
      • Lemo is voiced by Antonio Palumbo instead of Diego Sabre.
      • Dende is voiced by Mirko Cannella instead of Giuseppe Calvetti.
      • In a combination of this and The Original Darrin, Shenron is voiced by Neri Marcoré (who already voiced the character in the earlier dubs of the Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z movies) instead of Giovanni Battezzato (his regular voice actor who died in early 2022) or Marcello Moronesi (who took the role in Broly). In the same vein, when Goku appears as a kid in flashbacks, he's not voiced by his regular voice actress Patrizia Scianca but by Massimo Corizza, who voiced him in the very first dub of the original Dragon Ball.
  • Playing Against Type:
  • Product Placement: Two. One for Oreo-brand sandwich cookies, and one for Essel Super Cup-brand ice cream cups.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Gamma #1 and Gamma #2's English voice actors Aleks Le and Zeno Robinson were fans of the DB franchise prior to being cast in this movie. In addition to this, Aleks Le stated that he's a huge fan of Hiroshi Kamiya and was happy to dub over one of his roles.
  • Troubled Production: The March 7, 2022 hack at Toei Animation that caused anime series like One Piece and Delicious Party♡Pretty Cure to be delayed also affected this movie, forcing it to be delayed as well.
  • Voices in One Room: Zig-zagged. As is the norm for anime dubs the rest of the cast recorded their lines separately note , however, Aleks Le (Gamma #1) and Zeno Robinson (Gamma #2) recorded their lines together in the same booth making this yet another a very rare occurrence of this in anime dubbing.
  • What Could Have Been: In an interview, Akira Toriyama admitted that he envisioned Piccolo as the sole main character, until he was convinced to have Gohan be a co-lead. It shows that much of the plot is driven by Piccolo and Gohan only contributes in the later half.
  • You Sound Familiar: Hiroshi Kamiya previously voiced two bit characters in Dragon Ball GT, specifically Pan's date Poperu in episode 1 and Ronge in episode 25, yet this was so early in his career note  that you'd be forgiven for thinking Super Hero was his first time voicing in DB.
