Not sure if this will even be seen, but I have to try:

Where did Cosmo and Poof’s middle names come from? I know they’re on the FOP wiki, but most individual fandom wikis are pretty low-quality, and I can’t find an official source. And the last name “Cosma” is speculative and probably incorrect: in my experience, when someone is called “Mama X”, X is almost always her *first* name.

Also, Wanda’s last name came from the “77 Secrets” short, which can be found online, and if you pause or watch in slow motion, it’s clearly shown to be spelled *Fairiewinkle*. Proof screenshot: https://i.postimg.cc/cJVz2XFP/proof.png (copy-paste the URL, discussion page formatting is really wonky)

(I vaguely recall that someone in a comment somewhere on the FOP wiki said that there was a Nickelodeon spot where Cosmo’s last name was confirmed to be “Van Wand”, but again, I have no first-level source to check or cite.)

In "Wishing Well," the three kids deliberately show each other their fairies. Isn't that against Da Rules?

Nope. If child has godparent, they can show it to another kid that has godparent. It happened in Fairy Fairy Quite Contrary already.

Ok every once and I while I come back to this place, do a little digging, and find some users here making mean edits toward Tootie.

Lets get some things clear: she isn't insane, she is one of the smartest and nicest characters on the show. All the jokes about her needing therapy or restraining orders were also done with Timmy toward Trixie so you'll have to call him insane too. She isn't ugly either, even if you don't like her glasses and nerdy appearance (in which case you have no taste) there is the fact she grows up to be a beautiful woman. Also, lets stop beating around the bush here: she marries Timmy in canon, or at least has Tammy and Tommy, as confirmed by the official Nick website. I know this very thought enrages some of you, because god forbid a character that suffered without the help of fairies got a good resolution in the end, but deal with it already because that is what the creators decided.

I'm sorry if my post sounds mean, but I think its time someone put their foot down on this. The ship to ship combat stuff is pathetic in any show, but doing it with the FOP is just trying too hard. You haters should realize that many FOP fans are Tootie fans, and among them not all of them like Timmy/Tootie or argue about it, so mindlessly hating on her is not going to make you many friends.

You can't simply block users because you don't agree with their opinions.

There is a difference between having an opinion, and going around posting lies that we have been over a dozen times before aren't true.

The way I see it is like this. If these people aren't going around overstating Trixie Tang's importance on the show, they are rabidly foaming at the mouth hating on Tootie, it's a pattern that you don't need to be an investigator to figure out, and everybody is tired of hearing about it except them.

Because clearly this is a matter of lies and truth. People who like your ship are all shining members of TV Tropes community who never post anything that isn't 100% objective, while those who prefer an opposing ship are naturally the scum of society and must be eradicated for their mindless trolling. Makes total sense.

I can't speak for other posters, but I have made only a few posts about Tootie herself. Now, I have made posts concerning Wishology, Trixie Tang, and the live action movie, Grow Up Timmy Turner. I HAVE criticized Grow Up Timmy Turner but the criticism of the live action movie has little to do with shipping and more to do with them adapting a cartoon to live action. I've never particularly cared for that. Also, I find the idea of Timmy deliberating holding himself from growing up kind of creepy, even if it is because he loves his godfamily so much. As for Tootie herself, there are two posts I was involved with that come to mind. I mentioned on Wild Mass Guessing, which by it's nature is speculation, why Tootie doesn't seem to have a fairy godparent. You have to admit it is kind of odd she doesn't have one considering she has A Shared Suffering with Timmy and they both have parents that don't do a good job of protecting them; in Timmy's case, from the Turner's indifference to him, in Tootie's case her parents fear of Vicky. Several people have asked the same question. After watching the Birthday Wish episode, which by the way is a very good episode, some fans concluded that perhaps Tootie lost them due to her revealing their existence especially in light of the fact that she seemed so eager to reveal them all through the episode. That's not the only reason though. In Abra-Castrophe, it was outright stated that it was unusual for a godchild to hold onto their fairies for as long as Timmy has because usually the godchild has done something to reveal their existence. That hardly qualifies as a "mean" edit. I mean is it really that much of a stretch to think that Tootie had fairies and then got them taken from her because she shared the information with someone. The other post concerned Abhorrent Admirer which did not originate with me. One poster said "Doesn't Tootie qualify as one?" I actually was trying to soften the harshness of that comment by saying at this stage of Timmy's life he might think of her as that but by the time he gets older and more mature, he'll lose that view of her. I'm not sure how that qualifies as "mean" either. I've, also, never criticized her appearance or said she was "ugly". Now, she may look kind of nerdy, but so do Timmy, Chester, A.J., Sanjay, and Elmer so she's actually not that much different than the main characters in appearance. Finally, yes I am a Timmy/Trixie fan, but I don't have a hatred for Tootie. I am a bit mystified, though, why it's necessary to trash Trixie in order to make Tootie look good which seems to be the case going on here. Statements about Trixie like "overstating her importance on the show" and "she doesn't really have hidden depths" are going to provoke Timmy/Trixie fans the way the comments on Tootie "stalking" Timmy provoke Timmy/Tootie fans. In either case, it's not necessary. There are "ships" some people are going to like that other people absolutely hate. However, calling them "lies" and "mean edits" when someone likes a different pairing from you is kind of pushing the line.

Nice straw man you've got going there Progeny.

FOP Troper, if you are a Timmy/Trixie fan, then worry about your own couple, and I'm sure Tootie/Timmy fans will worry about their own. Also, while Trixie arguably has a modicum of depth from an episode that came out nearly a decade ago, so can it be argued that Tootie has similar minor depths in different ways, as with Vicky or practically any other recurring character (I think Crocker fits the best for the Hidden Depths trope, which is why I put him there and erased the shipping crap). It just ended up as another way for people to say "well my couple is deeper" whenever they decide to forget this is not a romantic but a comedy show.

The edit in question I was referring to, I forgot what trope it was under, but it basically had a short line which called Tootie an insane stalker, written right after a long paragraph about how important and deep Trixie is because she wore a baseball cap in one scene.

Does Not Understand Sarcasm? Fine, I'll say it straight. While you may have a valid point somewhere in there, it's obscured by your extremely self-righteous demeanor and gross exaggeration of your argument, and I honestly have no clue how you could possibly think you're being in any way objective. Happy?

So telling people to stop mindlessly hating on cartoon characters based off shipping is not only self-righteous demeanor, but somehow also making me the one who is a shipper? Sarcasm or not, you made a stupid statement which has absolutely nothing to do with what I am discussing. The internet has more than enough sarcastic pseudo-intellectuals.

I'm asking you all to stop spreading lies about characters you don't like. Yes, they are lies most of the time, and I'm well aware they go both ways, that doesn't excuse anyone from doing them. Any time someone like me tries to do something about it you all knee jerk blame the other ship like what is being done here.

Whatever, I guess some people want to fill themselves with hate and argue about pointless angles from a comedy show for all perpetuity.

"a short line which called Tootie an insane stalker, written right after a long paragraph about how important and deep Trixie is because she wore a baseball cap in one scene."

That pretty much sums up the state of the FOP trope section in general if you ask me. What is even more bothersome is this isn't the reflection of (whats left of) the FOP fanbase, instead it's literally the fruits of two or three person's labor, and they want everyone to follow the same niche ideas/pairing/whatever they want.

For the millionth time. This line:

  • Sorry, I'm Gay: Trixie uses this excuse on Timmy in "Boy Who Would Be Queen": "That's what I have girlfriends for!"

Is not an example of the trope in question, because obviously Trixie did not mean it in that way. Stop adding it back in, for the love of god.

Not the person who made that edit, and not trying to butt in here..

...but is it really necessary to knee jerk blame Tootie fans for every bad edit made for Trixie? I mean, for as long as this site has been up, Trixie fans insist on including her name in many of the tropes, even ones she barely fits, and sometimes including Tootie along with her in the particularly negative ones as a way of saying "them too" (looking at the Flanderization entry) when it comes to getting screwed over by the creators or whatever it is shippers are usually belly aching about.

Maybe somebody got slighted, or maybe it was even a Trixie fan who inserted it there. A lot of them are into the Trixie/Veronica thing.

Yes, I have. I've watched it start to finish.

Like every other Trixie episode, he uses magic to impress her, and she all of a sudden warms up to him. Then she cons Timmy into using his last wish with the spare wand to make her a last minute science project, since she was too irresponsible to do her own, and it turns into a giant robot that destroys the school.

How, in whatever universe shippers live in, is that being a "girl next door"?

And its not the Trixie "haters" that are the problem here, its the Trixie worshippers.

Because in this episode she is not The Libby but typically pretty in an accessible way and acts more as one more of the schoolmates of Timmy. Furthermore, it's one of her most sympathetics portrayals in the series...

Edited by sozincomet
Snuggie Since: Dec, 1969
May 19th 2011 at 8:35:53 PM •••

She was accessible because Timmy was using magic to cheat the fairy's rules and impress her. This happens somehow in many other Trixie episodes.

Its not just that entry I'm talking about, there seems to be a bias here about using any singular moment that Trixie is not being mean as hard evidence she secretly wants Timmy or is faking her Libby-ness.

Do we need that forum link to the Hartmanisms? It's a good, well-thought out critique for the most part, but as the later forum posts show, not everyone agrees, naturally. Besides, this is supposed to be a wiki page based on facts, so we shouldn't be putting down opinions on the description like this (and we already have TVTropes Reviews for that anyways). Still, it's interesting enough that we can keep it on the discussion page for reference.
