One, not all of the post-Genesis titles were bad (or even mediocre, for that matter)...

Two, it's Sonic Team that makes most of the post-Genesis Sonic titles. Sega merely publishes them.

As much as I hate to admit it, "Poor, poor Sonic..." really is appropriate in this instance, especially in lieu of the recent leaks.

I've been a fan of the series for a long time. Please trust me, though. I know my standards among the Fan Dumb that I spawned from. Me saying "Poor, poor Sonic" sadly fits well here. This can only get worse.... This may even affect Sega and Sonic Team as a whole now. July needs to hurry up already, because this Hatedom may be the biggest one the series has ever gotten, yet. I just want it all to stop.

I've read in some sources that the release date was July 2010. I've read in other sources that the release date was a more generic Summer 2010. I don't truly know what the release date is.

Update: It really will be released in July 2010. However, the exact day is still unknown to me.

I wouldn't normally like to add to the shitstorm of this wait, but it does look like another shameless "SONIC GOES BACK TO HIS CLASSIC 2D ROOTS" for his "BIGGEST ADVENTURE YET" hype to lead into a flop that has already been seen to happen in Sonic Advance. And then Sonic Rush. Similar to the hyping of Sonic and the Secret Rings with "BACK THE CLASSIC ROOTS OF PLAYING ONLY AS SONIC". It seems to me, at least. Each were almost okay but with more flaws than perks that made them mediocre-at-best in the difference. Especially telling is that Sonic's appearance is the same as it is in his other recent games. I know it has been an obnoxious bitching point before, but I would like to think that if this was an earnest project in trying to "go back and recapture the magic with a wacky prequelsequel" at best or "undo the damage that has been done through denial" at worst, Sonic's very asthetic would have changed to mirror his old black-eyed, chubby self. Unless he somehow changed to that appearance rapidly after Sonic & Knuckles, it does not make a heck of a lot of sense chronologically; Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles were released the very same year, Sonic Adventure followed after four years (and Sonic 3D Blast came out in 1996 right between them and Sonic was round-bodied and black-eyed there but it was a spinoff game so oh, well). It seems to me, at least.

Honestly though, there's a big difference between recapturing something and redoing it. Games and how they look and play HAVE moved on since the 90's. This isn't a nineties game redone in the current day, as Sega themselves have said, it's a natural continuation of it. Emphasis on continuation: forward, not back. What was marketable in the 90's maybe isn't today to a non-fannish audience. And since when has continuity even had a place in 2D Sonic games?

Also, the Advance and Rush series were flops? That's... not something I've really heard before. Most of the fandom I've interacted with is very enthusiastic about them, especially the first couple of Advance games.

Really, I find that only a select few of the Sonic games were terrible. No, not Sonic The Hedgehog 2006. It was far from good, but had redeeming qualities. The only one I'd say was horrible without any doubt is Sonic Free Riders. The rest have definate scores of good/bad/mediocre respectively.

Honestly, I won't get into a graphics debate, because I could care less about them. As long as they don't make the game an eyesore, I don't care. Likewise, as for Sonic's looks, too nitpicky, really. Closest I could see is that he doesn't look like he should be something timeline-wise. As in, he doesn't get green eyes yet or something.

As for Music, I think the game might've not succeeded in the department all too well. May be due to constant remixes, and when fan remixes are actually better, you gotta think something's up...

It's to be expected for a game still in development, and with the largest, most completely out of control fanbase in the world.

But yes, very sad. Blame the system.

The Sonic fanbase is one of the few that disappoints me. They'll complain. About. ANY SODDING THING. Even if Sega were to adhere to every last one of their demands, the number one Unpleaseable Fanbase in the world would complain "SMALL TYPO IN THE INGAME TEXT THEREFORE GAME RUINED FOREVER!". I mean, people were complaining about Sonic's eye colour! Sega have given them what they want, but no, they still complain. And I wondered before why I was losing faith in humanity.

The sonic fandom is the most ungrateful fandom known.

As much as I'm a Sonic fan myself, I'll have to agree with you, MightyKombat. I'm sure I'm one of the very few fans that don't complain with what happens to this game.

For example: I don't complain about Sonic's green eyes nor do I complain about the series Loads And Loads Of Characters. No one ever listens to me when I say that Mario still has more characters. Why is that?

Hopefully. All of this rage will calm down when the game gets released. If the more, insane, and whiny Sonic fans keep focusing their rage on this game, it's almost like they just want to buy the game just to hate it more.

Somehow, I can compare this to Pokemon Black And White, and what that game's going through with the Pokemon fanbase....

I have a good, albeit extreme idea of Sega if they wanna deal with them:

Cancel the game. Or at least, threaten to if the fan dumb doesn't cut the crap.

Nice prank. They're complaining about the game while it's still being developed. I bet they'll still complain if it got canceled.

Of course they sodding will, they don't want to actually realise they're at fault or would be if the game was cancelled. If anything, I actually feel sorry for Sonic Team and Sega now.

So anyhow, for Sega, if the fan dumb and Unpleasable Fanbase keep crying over a little detail like RING SIZE, then cancel the game to teach them a lesson. Not only that but the ones that legitimately wanted to play it will pretty much ostracise the others and give them something to think about.

Simply amazing, really. Maybe then they can be a little bit more rational with what does and doesn't work. Some of them probably don't even know what to complain about in this game, and complain about the game anyways for the sake of complaining about the game.

Part of the problem is that they try to please both the old fans and the new fans, both of whom want different things from the games. In my opinion they just split it into two different franchises like Nintendo has done with Legend of Zelda.

Whether it'll keep them quiet or not is the question.

Umm... have you guys ever been in any other fanbases? At all? Did Greedo shoot first? Do the Blood Elves belong in the Horde? Is an anime fighting game a good idea for the Belmont clan? Is the Disney Channel a proud representative of the Disney heritage? Gentlemen, please. Get some context.

The broken Sonic fanbase is just one of the more recent and notable ones. Nothing good can ever be said about the games without starting an argument, even when the content of the games themselves are actually pretty good. There's always someone that has to find a flaw and complain. It makes me sick.

BPence has a point with the Zelda comparision. Like with artstyles of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, Sega and Sonic Team may just start making 2D games and 3D at the same time to please those 2 division of the fanbase, hopefully...

Seeing Sonic Colors made me realize this, and Nintendo did something similar with New Super Mario Bros Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

With Sonic Colors being New Super Mario Bros Wii, and Sonic Generations being Super Mario Galaxy 2. Sonic 4 pales by comparison, on par with say, Fortune Street or something at worst.

Fair enough. But before I readded the Your Mileage May Vary entry, a good deal of the page was basically a diatribe against fans who have concerns about the game. You'd think that anyone who doesn't believe this to be the Second Coming and Dream Fulfillment of All Things Spectacular... is a frothing idiot. To go along with the five or so Fan Dumb links on the page, is there a trope for something like Lapdog Loyalty? EDIT: I just took out some of the heavier slams. We'll see if that works.

I think it basically counts AS fan dumb. Maybe we could mention both sides in the entry.

I've done some editings, but don't think that I'm thin-skinned. If I took out too much or if I was unfair, go ahead and improve it! (As for the delay, I think there has been a lot of positive reaction to it.)
