Not exactly. As YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) dictates, the ultimate consensus of a Servant is ultimately dependent on each user's opinions.
MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesStarting to feel Ordeal Call should be separated as a different "season" from Cosmos in the Lostbelt on all pages for the game. Reasoning below:
- It's separated from Cosmos in the Lostbelt on the official site even if they do share the same title with Ordeal Call tacking on a third subtitle.
- Just because the overarching storyline itself didn't end, that doesn't mean they seem to consider the Lostbelts still continuing. None of the concepts actually marking a Lostbelt so far have shown up.
- Avoids confusion between Lostbelts and Ordeal Calls being lumped together as story chapters on top of already confused story nomenclature for the Lostbelt Chapter .5s, which tend to omit "Chapter" in edits referring to them.
- Helps ease page bloat with some very bloated character pages.
- All Ordeal Call related content is tagged in the game as a 4th new arc separate from the Lostbelts.
- The story archive similarly◊ considers Ordeal Call as a separate arc from Cosmos in the Lostbelt.
Moving from ArcVillain.Fate Grand Order's discussion since it's a new page and not many people may see it to repost my explanation for why use quotation marks when referring to Singularities or Lostbelts.
Firstly, the most notable reason: "the official translation has never used italics when referring to Lostbelts or (Psuedo-)Singualrities in full title. If this wiki is to rigidly adhere to localizations (ie. Altria and referring to everyone solely by one specific name as their moniker), italics should not be used anywhere for any of the game's pages."
My personal reasons: I personally do not think the game's individual stories themselves should merit italics for their titles as
- It muddles clarity as to what is counted work and their use on Recap implies that these are the equivalent to episodes, which have been standardized on this wiki to only have quotation marks when referred to.
- Treated as a part of a video game, it becomes even more inane to italicize them when video game levels generally don't get italicized.
- It steadily inflates byte size with pointless emphasis.
For Mashu, even if you don't like it, she's the main heroine of the story. You don't really get dialogue options to flat out reject her and singularities like Shinjuku indicate that Gudao seems to be reciprocating at least a little. She's not abhorrent to him.
For Brynhildr, I know perfectly well that she kills her lovers. Her bond lines indicate that Gudao continues being nice to her anyway.
That being said, you have a point with Serenity. Gudao is definitely afraid of Kiyohime and Raikou in that scene but Serenity distances herself from those two a little by just wanting to have her head patted or something like that, making Mashu the only one to get really upset. It'd probably be fair to remove her.
Edited by Arha Hide / Show RepliesUm no, you get dialouge that can indicate note being receptive to Mashu as well and there is no mandatory dialouge that says you do. Serenity is a similar case because, as with Mashu, options can show you being receptive or not so your argument makes no sense.
No, you were right about Serenity. She shouldn't be on here. I'd remove her, but you have the page checked out right now.
This discussion should only be about Mashu and Brynhildr.
Edited by ArhaUm no both are valid do to dialouge choices so you can't really dictate that. This whole argument seems to based on your whole preference (which is also why we calling Abhorrent Admirer instead of Unwanted Harem) and I've tried to ok with but you're warping facts at this point.
I don't even like Mashu. This isn't about what characters I do or don't like. This is about what Gudao's actual personality is and what the story is. When I ask you to cite what you're talking about, you either don't respond or mention something that actually says the opposite of what you think it does. Some of the things you've said indicate a clear lack of understanding of the story, such as calling it a harem series.
The fact of the matter is that we don't see Gudao express an opinion on Brynhildr, his responses to Serenity are generally neutral and his responses to Mashu are generally slightly positive to very positive, such as his jealousy and possessiveness during Shinjuku or prioritizing her over Jeanne and Saber Alter during the same chapter.
It's clear what the main ship of this series is. I don't have to like it, but I do accept it. Saying that the protagonist finds his love interest 'abhorrent' is simply inaccurate.
Um I think you're not transating it correctly because he his in no way possessive nor is he any more positive than he can be with any other servant. They don't in anyway push her on you, as you have choices to shut it down. One example would be not being receptive to her trying Kuro's kiss gig on you. But as I noted else where on the page there is options to be receptive.
Edited by Race76Have you actually read the Shinjuku chapter? Your choices regarding Mashu boil down to two favorable responses varying only in degree or in what you're focusing on. And I've never seen an opportunity to go 'ew gross!' to Mashu, which I would remember because it would be funny.
I just showed you a case, and yes I have read shinjuku and it has no overt romantic examples your talking about.
Then I guess it's going to stay commented out for now because you haven't convinced me,I haven't convinced you and no one else is speaking up.
Um that is in no way fair and others edited on it without issue so it seems unnessary.
Edited by Race76How is it unfair? One person says it fits, the other says it doesn't. In that case you usually default to not having the entry. Nobody is exactly leaping to replace it either.
I'm not sure if this discussion has happened before, but what's the policy regarding tropes from the arcade version. As well as unique characters from the arcade such as Sita, Jacque, and Setanta
Hide / Show RepliesSome people have said they wanted to make an exclusive character page for unique characters.
Regarding the arcade version itself, there hasn't been much discussion because of lack of easily accessible information on arcade gameplay or until very recently the plot itself, so there haven't been many tropes on them. You are free to make a page for the arcade version if you'd like.
So I was about to add Late Export for You in the Trivia page, but got confused on the initial release date of FGO in Japan:
- The main Video Game tab here on TV Tropes says July 25, 2015 (I added the phrase in Japan) to that page recently, now I am confused, CMIIW.
- The Wikipedia page says July 29, 2015 in the lead paragraph while the infobox on the right says July 30, 2015.
- A quick Google of Fate Grand Order release date brings up July 30, 2015.
The Android and iOS releases had different dates, which also impeded the release window.
I think July 25 was the original planned date, then they pushed back in hopes of doing a synced release but then when it became clear that Apple wasn't going to let that happen, they went ahead with Android release first and iOS later.
Would it be okay if we expand this statement further in the lead paragraph?
- 17 million downloads for the Japanese version and 6 million downloads for the American version.
- Because from the perspective of a TV Tropes newcomer or lurker who has not yet played the game, it would appear that FGO only had 23 million downloads, when in fact this Wikipedia compilation page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most-played_mobile_games_by_player_count) states that FGO had 32 million downloads on October 2018.
- Can we also have the numbers for the millions of downloads of this game in other regions like China or Korea?
- Might as well add the month and year when the downloads were updated, since the linked Wikipedia page states 32 million on October 2018, that number surely increased now after nine months and counting.
Getting a page length warning so opening up this topic because not sure how many subpages need to be created.
Would it be okay if we use stars instead of asterisks when referring to item rarities. Specifically, change 1*, 2*, 3*, 4* and 5* to 1★, 2★, 3★, 4★ and 5★... Cause you know, stars are used in-game instead of asterisks. And IMO it would make the presentation look better.
The symbol may appear like this when editing (I placed spaces in between because the page automatically converts it to a star symbol, it would work without spaces). In this case, 5-star:
5 & # 9 7 3 3 ;
- Just in case the line I typed above revealed a star, what I'd like to mention is that star symbols display the HTML Unicode UTF-8 #9733 when editing the source code.
- Perhaps the easiest way to do this is to simply highlight the ★ symbol, copy it, and replace the * with it when referring to the five star rarities in all F/GO pages here in TV Tropes
TBH if replacing all the asterisks with stars means using *1/*2/*3/*4/*5 to match the game's format, I'm going to change everything to C/UC/R/SR/SSR because nothing will ever convince me that format doesn't look incredibly dumb.
Edited by NouctIf you're saying this, then you clearly haven't even read the scene. Her appearance and weapon are exactly how he figures out who she is, after which he says 'but you're a girl, so I took the name Artorius and changed it to the feminine form.' Moriarty is a native English speaker, so he would not change an r to an l or drop the o in the middle of the name. That's why it's a plot hole. The name Altria doesn't make sense in that scene.
Also, please don't accuse me of bashing just because I point out plot holes. Your tone is also the one that comes across as significantly more aggrieved.
Hide / Show RepliesYour assuming that the conversation will go that way, when it may not. I'm simply saying wait and see so we can confirm.
I mean, to be fair, if the conversation doesn't go that way then it's a shitty localization. What it should be doing is translating the story in the best and most accurate way it can, not bastardize it. Arha isn't wrong, fact remains that Altria is a nonsensical translation no matter how much it's being pushed; both Artoria and Arturia make far more sense than Altria ever will because both of those play into her real identity as King Arthur.
Edit: And in hindsight, didn't mean to effectively necropost. Didn't look at the post dates and I now realize my mistake.
Edited by SilverShadow2001 This is a pun. Even if it doesn't seem like it, it's always a pun.So, it's official:
https://clips.twitch.tv/BraveGoldenSoybeanCurseLit
Straight from Aniplex USA, and according to them from Type-Moon themselves, it's Altria, not Artoria. Regardless of what we may think (see also: siiiiigh) that's the official nomenclature and it should be used on all relevant pages going forward.
(What does this mean for "Artoria" in Extella? Who knows!)
Hide / Show RepliesThey've used Artoria before elsewhere. I'd really rather not change it. Especially since the name is explicitly based off the Roman name 'Artorius.'
They have used Artoria before, but it's been noted that it seems they're actually making something of a push to set "Altria" in stone (all the recent F/GO complete material books have used that spelling, as has virtually all F/GO-era merchandise).
I guess I can hold off for now, but it really does seem like actual, no-nonsense Word of God has been spoken from upon the mountain.
(As to whether or not it's a dumb choice, I merely offer this, once again, in commentary:
siiiiiiiiigh.)
edit: I think I'll hold off on further Altria updates 'till Sunday and we see what is formally published to the App Store. If it's Altria in the published app, though, then I'm sorry, but I'll go ahead with the replacement to match the published English material. There'll be no reason to mess with the other Fate pages, but if she's called Altria in the published app, then the pages here really should reflect that.
Edited by SpaceDrakeThey've used both Altria and Artoria before. Arturia has also seen some usage. Frankly, with that kind of inconsistency I'd rather we just went with a name that actually looks something like 'Arthur.' Altria is just terrible. I think during Shinjuku Moriarty even guesses her name correctly based on the Artorius thing. No reasonable English speaker would ever guess the name Altria as the feminine form of Arthur.
I mean, I get going with the official position on released works over the fan names. A day or two ago I even switched all the 'Hakuoros' on the Uta 2 page to 'Hakowlo' despite how silly that sounds, but at least in that case the production team never contradicted themselves.
Well, see my edit. As much as I totally agree about the Artorius thing (and yes, that does happen in Shinjuku and Type-Moon just laid a huge goose egg for the poor English loc team) and as much as I can mostly express my opinion on "Altria" with a long series of sighs, it is Type-Moon's work, and if they've decided they want it to be Altria and officially publish the game with that name in place...
...Well, given how much of a fucking mess this English translation is so far, I now have no idea what to do.
Pretend it doesn't exist, go back to Artoria. It's a name they've used officially elsewhere anyway.
Okay but seriously, what are we doing? You can either change what Artorias are left into Altria or I'm going to do the opposite.
Considering the official use of Artoria in other material, the poor translation quality of the english release, and the fact that almost every other Fate page uses Artoria instead of Altria, I'm in favor of reverting the changes as Arha says.
Alright, if there's no arguments against by tomorrow I'm going to go ahead and do it. If nothing else, it'll let us be consistent across the website as to her name.
Alright, I'm going to ask on ATT about this one so we can get some kind of official ruling.
You can weigh in here if you feel I am being mean or biased or something.
