You arenĀ“t the only one, I, for some reason, despise this type of character (especially when he bounces to "defend" an abusive woman) I want to see one with the crap beaten out of him too!
Edited by CHANDELUREFANOh, that's even worse, I agree, when the women he is defending, isn't even the victim, but the attacker.
If I ever made a media work, I would for sure prove the main page wrong, and make a husband basher basher, played by a male, who finds abusive women and beats them up. And maintains audience sympathy.
A guy failing to do that doesn't make for a good story, to be blunt. He always has to be the better fighter or the bigger one.
I'd make a female version who dishes out the pain equally to both abusive men and women. I'm a feminist: I believe that women are equal to men, and should be held equally responsible for their actions.
Wow, some of these are chock full of unfortunate implications. While I understand not liking the stereotype of women being fragile and thus needing to be protected by men, since I don't believe this myself, I think that wanting a character to get away with beating someone who can't or isn't putting up a fight is terrible.
EDIT: Nevermind, I was an idiot when I wrote that.
Edited by CosmosAndChaosAm I the only one disturbed by how this trope seems to encourage patricide and demonizes fathers in general? It's actually rather sickening.
Korm: No, you're not the only one. It is disturbing, and it's disturbingly ubiquitous.
@ladyofprocrastination: I actually would like to see a character that's merciless to abusers of both genders.
At the risk of sounding disturbing in my first post on this website, are there any examples of a wife basher basher failing? I want to see a man get outraged when he sees a women being hurt or whatever, but then his attempted beatdown fails, and the women-hurter just destroys them both.
Yes, the Karma Houdini is my favorite kind of character in media (not real life).
