Deleting this example for a number of reasons:

  • The War on Terrorism is an interesting subversion, but not from NATO's side, from the Taliban side. The Taliban's strategy of triggering a war, then hiding in the Afghan mountains while carrying out minor hit-and-run missions, is specifically intended to drain the resources of their enemies and then strike back when they're weak. Historians and tacticians noticed this strategy used on the Russian occupation of Afghanistan in the 80s and 90s, and drew parallels to what they're doing now. Some could argue that, to some degree, it's working.

One: The Taliban did not trigger the war with the West/US/NATO/Whatever; Al Queda did. While they gave the terrorist group a base of operations and supported them, they did not necessarily want a war with the West, considering they were in complete control of Afghanistan prior to 9/11, with little to no opposition. It makes no sense for them to think that they would benefit in suddenly triggering a war with the most powerful military force on the planet. And, for the record, their forces are in ruin, and, even if NATO forces were to pull out as early as tomorrow, they would have to fight several other forces all over again just to take back the power they had entirely in their hands prior to the war they didn't want in the first place.

Two: Which brings me to Al Queda, who, unlike the Taliban, had stated goals of bringing the West to its' knees, reviving a lost Caliphate Empire, purging the world of infidels, etc.; goals which, to say the least, are not succeeding. There are those who, unfortunately, give the late bin Laden and his cronies too much credit by saying that they wanted what resulted from the 9/11 attacks, so as to cause chaos, drain Western forces, or ruin the reputation of the United Sates, etc., and that we all played into their hands. Never mind that this blatantly contradicts statements made by bin Laden about how he believed, after watching them "cut and run" in Somalia, that America had "no stomach for war", and would break and capitulate completely with just a little carnage (which is the only reason why the Taliban would ever agree to back the organization on such an operation - they believed bin Laden's ludicrous assertions that the West wouldn't put up a fight).

Calling JAFAAC on the image here.

There comes a time when one must decide: should I set that on fire, or not?
