The article seems to take the tone that suddenly sobering up in any of these situations is implausible, but isn't it Truth in Television to a degree that a sudden shock or scare or otherwise something to get the adrenalin going can have the effect of clearing your mind? Isn't that why caffeine is used to sober people up, because it's a stimulant?
