Suggestion:

This is supposed to be a sub-trope of Heroic Sacrifice, right? Well, in the description, it's mentioned that there's a variant that's not quite a heroic sacrifice.

From the main article: "May, occasionally, diverge from a Heroic Sacrifice by way of Fridge Logic, in one specific situation: Everyone is doomed unless one character makes the sacrifice. However, only one character is capable of making the sacrifice, and unless he does, everybody (including him) is doomed. Usually, the story plays it as a Heroic Sacrifice anyway. Only later does the audience realize that, wait a minuteā€”he didn't make a Heroic Sacrifice after all; he just decided he wasn't going to take everybody else with him when he inevitably kicked the bucket. Although not quite a Heroic Sacrifice, going through with it still proves that the character is a basically decent person who can Face Death with Dignity, or at least refuses to act like a Dirty Coward."

I recommend we rename this situation as "Not Taking You With Me" and split it off into its own page. The dynamics of such a situation are different—the character who's capable of saving everybody else can't save themselves whether they choose to save the others or not. It's a plot device more about accepting death than about choosing to die when you don't have to.
