Hm. OK, it's the one with the caption: "We calls 'em garritroopers. They're too far forward to shave an' too far back to git shot."
You need to use the Media Uploader to pull images onto the TV Tropes server so that they work. TV Tropes doesn't allow hotlinking images.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI think the description needs a bit of work. It has a good bit of unnecessary vitriol. Considering that, as the description states, most troops are, at any given moment, "Soldiers At The Rear", for various reasons, and the vast majority presumably because that's what they were assigned to do, it just seems to be rich in Unfortunate Implications.
Hide / Show RepliesI think there is two tropes in here too. Type 1 is the guy who desperately seeks the rear placement while resisting any attempt to move them towards combat(like Darling from Black Adder and Pertwee in The Navy Lark) and type 2 is the guy who is forced to stay back when he'd rather be LEEROY JENKINS (Mister Roberts, the guy with the flag on his head). If the TRS was open I'd be opening a thread suggesting a soft split (and defending a rename suggestion from Spark, but that is par for the course with the TRS).
Edited by CrypticMirrorI don't get the page quote.
"You want to see how a human dies? At ramming speed." - Emily Wong. Hide / Show RepliesChanged it for a bit more descriptive one. While I love PVT Murphys Law, it does require one to have a passing ability to speak and understand Army to know what they're talking about.
Perhaps we should change the page quote? IIRC Sgt. Grimes in Black Hawk Down was actually a fictional soldier made up to replace one who was a criminal and perhaps having that embody the trope would not be appropriate. Though the spirit of the quote fits the context makes it a bit cringe.
