This is more of an example of People Sit On Chairs than a trope. Skyboxes are as old as 3D gaming, and that's simply how worlds are built right now. I vote for a deletion.
Hide / Show RepliesIt'd be probably better to move it to Useful Notes instead - the use of a skybox isn't a trope, but it'd be interesting information nonetheless.
As an aside, "animated cartoons don't use Skyboxes, for the simple reason that there's no need to use them - the sky will naturally be drawn as part of the cartoon itself" is nonsensical - and plainly wrong, as Kung Fu Panda Legends Of Awesomeness has a very visible skybox during scenes in the bamboo forest.
This is such a universal element in video games that it would be better to list exeptions, if we need to have an article about this at all.
There is insufficient explanation of what a skybox is or how it works... it only talks about skyboxes, but someone who doesn't know the concept wouldn't learn, what it is.
Maybe a good way to explain how they work would be to give examples of Special Effects Failure that can result from skyboxes done poorly.
