Not sure about the use of The Chew Toy in the description. Several examples of "Only Sane Man who can't catch a break" are almost universally sympathetic to the audience and are sometimes meant to be. The mood-neutral Butt-Monkey seems more relevant in general, especially since the control implied by the trope title is "the rest of the cast" rather than "the universe."
