"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe Sonic 3 entry, on Hydrocity Zone, is completely wrong. The Japanese manual for the game reads ハイドロシティ, with the usual kana rendering of "city" (シティ). I'm changing this.
Edited by PhediukNgũgĩ wa Thiong'o is actually pronounced as Googee with a hard G sound wa Thiongo. The ng in Thiong'o is similar to the one in thing or sing.
This:
"It is more common in works in English and French languages. In numerous foreign languages, it's much less common where a word is typically pronounced exactly as it is written."
That second sentence... It's not quite Confusing Multiple Negatives, but it is Confusing Multiple Vague Words. What is it trying to say? It sounds like it's saying that this trope is common in English and French, because in foreign languages, it's less common for a word to be phonetic... which would make this trope *more* common there...?
What?? If anybody knows what this sentence is trying to say, could they edit it for clarity, please? Thank you.
Lampshaded by Moe Howard of the The Three Stooges: Worcestershire sauce: "wer-sess-ter-shis-ter-sheer-sh'r-shar ... I can never say Wiss-tuh shuhr" (the correct pronunciation I believe).
Hide / Show RepliesTechnics turntables. In the US, it's pronounced teck-NEEKS. This has been confirmed by Panasonic USA. That is also how it was pronounced in television advertisements in the late 80s/early 90s, and in product placement on game shows. In the UK, the common pronunciation is TECK-nicks.
RE: GI Fs. According to the creator of the format, it's pronounced "jiff." Evidence here: http://www.olsenhome.com/gif/
Edited by mindinrewind"Bakugan. Is it Back-ooh-gan, or Bah-koo-gahn?* Going by standard Japanese pronunciation rules, it's the latter, since there is no "a" as in "back" sound."
There's not really an "ah" as in "palm" sound either. The Japanese low vowel is somewhere between "back" and "palm", isn't it?
Not right away, not right awaythe trope pic up right now is really shitty, its not clear what part of it is supposed to represent the trope until you read the entry referring to it. ill change it if i find a new one but until then i'm whining
Hide / Show RepliesImage deleted. I don't think it's possible to show this trope visually.
See you in the discussion pages. In Oz, Shillinger is almost universally pronounced with a soft "g"; one time, after he kills someone (iirc) he says, "It's Shill-Ing-Gerr, asshole". (A major Oz fan with the DV Ds might want to research this.)
The only pronunciation of Ozymandias I recall from the movie was Oz-ee-man-DAY-oos or Oh-zee-man-DAY-oos.
