People like to give the quote its larger context (on the grounds that there is a more sophisticated and better point to be made than one of "mindless patriotism") which is perfectly reasonable. But even if left by itself, it seems to make no damn sense. Why? Because it admits the possibility of the country being wrong! What exactly is the quote trying to say? Perhaps: "I'll always follow my country whether it is right or wrong." But if you think your country is currently in the wrong, then why are you following it? Does not compute.

Strictly speaking, the most "patriotic" version (setting aside the numerous alternate views of patriotism, of course) would be "My country: right!".

Why can't we have a real life section? It would talk about the point of views of the person who stayed loyal to his country despite policies (s)he disliked. NOT the point of views of the tv tropes community. Can talking about the point of views of a figure really turn into a flame war about that figure's point of view? and if so, would we still have that problem if we only used well established people with well established point of views that match this trope?

Removed this:

Nope. Supporting a corrupt government is not a defining feature of patriotism. Many national patriots opposed the incumbent government of their time on the grounds that the government was betraying national pride and values.

Whatever troper chucked that into the Real Life section probably suffers from Cultural Cringe and sees any kind of national pride as evil.

I've made a lot of changes to the Laconic and Playing With entries.

Believe It Or Not seems to think "My Country, Right or Wrong" is really "Patriotic Fervor Always Makes You Evil, Especially If You're American." Not only that, but his ideas of a trope getting played with often don't line up with the definitions of the tropes. He also made some horrendous entries that looked like they were made chiefly to sneak in an insult toward the United States and Americans, something that is a very big no-no.

I think he's trying to make those articles into his personal Take Thats against the United States, aside from his lack of comprehension concerning the meaning of this trope.
