This needs a name change to distance it from an improvised tracheotomy done for valid medical reasons.
Hide / Show RepliesTrope is redundant with Slashed Throat, and that one's name is more indicative. Making it a redirect.
I still contend that it at least needs a rename, and most of the examples are simply along the lines of "Alice kills Bob by cutting his throat", which is exactly what should be going on Slashed Throat.
oh is that all, well I've removed and edited the examples that are unequivocally not about piercing (whether by stabbing, shooting, or whatever). There are a couple where there isn't enough of a description to make a call so I've erred on the side of caution and left those for someone who knows the work better.
I got the rest that I knew enough about (or was able to clarify via the works pages), which makes it half the entries on the page being one of two wrong tropes.
Edited by MrDeaththe Wonderfalls is a combi of the two, and the Mission Impossible one could have gone either way since it didn't happen. So now it is all freshly cleaned up. I've taken a look at the wicks, and there is a lot of X Just X, but not much in the way of demonstrable misuse. I've cleaned them up though. So now we have a nice shiny trope, free of misuse, and fit for purpose. Fixed in the way a wiki should work, users working together to edit out any misuse.
Well, in Wonderfalls the intent was to save the man's life via Instant Drama, Just Add Tracheotomy, and in Mission Impossible, it was a helicopter blade that had been spinning, if I recall correctly, which would have slashed—not stabbed—his throat.
But I still say this is a bad name, because it gives the wrong idea if you only see the name. If it's about being stabbed in the throat, it should have a name like, well, Stabbed In The Throat. Impromptu Tracheotomy still looks and sounds like it should be about the medical procedure. There's only like 30 wicks to it anyway, so it's not a huge trope that's been around forever that will take forever to fix.
