On the page quote: I don't think it really counts as Hypocritical Humor. Mushu was intentionally doing "the tongue thing" to demonstrate what he meant. Notice this is the only time he ever does it

See "trope repair shop" discussion; removing (for the same reason as "real life" section):

    Myths & Religion
  • The Catholic Church has officially classified a wide range of aquatic animals as "fish", for purposes of determining whether they can be eaten for Lent by the faithful. Justified in that they're using an archaic definition of "fish", encompassing everything that lives in water: whales, squids, capybaras, sea turtles, whatever.
    • The Capybara is actually a big rodent, but classified as fish by special dispensation, allegedly from a request by 16th-century missionaries.
    • Hell, beavers are fish as far as the Catholic Church's fasting practices are concerned.
    • So are rabbits, allegedly (they're born blind and hairless). And barnacle geese, because they grow out of barnacles.
  • Jonah is usually said to have been swallowed by a whale, even though the book actually says it was a fish. However, the writer may indeed have had a whale in mind, since they were probably thought of as fish back then, which would make this case of Science Marches On.
  • On a folklore-related note, the Easter Bunny is actually a hare.

I don't think this is an example, either:

  • The whale in Paper Mario, which Kolorado insists is a giant tuna.
  • In Pokemon, one translation of the Japanese name for Ampharos means "electric dragon", despite it being based off an electric sheep. However, in Generation IV, it can learn the Dragon-type move Outrage.

A related example in Nanoha, but probably not quite this trope: Yuuno. (He's a shapeshifting mage rather than a famailiar - don't make this mistake.)

Given the other examples on the page, I guess it's close enough.

In "Megas XLR" the sidkick was some sort of hipster guy. He was unclean and people from the future/aliens always mistook him for the hero's "Pet monkey thing." And the sidekick had a berserk button reaction to this. I can't remember names however.
