I pulled this example for being quite unclear:

  • In House of the Dragon, Alicent Hightower. Subverted, in that Alicent is her stepdaughter Rhaenyra's former best friend, and despite Alicent trying her best to defend and protect Rhaenyra, she is still resentful and angry for many years at Alicent for marrying her father.
Problems:
  1. If Alicent does "defend and protect" her stepdaughter, then it's a straight example and Not a Subversion.
  2. The example should actually tell us in what way (and from what) Alicent "defends and protects" her stepdaughter. An example which merely paraphrases the trope definition is ultimately a Zero-Context Example.

Edited by LordGro Let's just say and leave it at that.

Hi. Can we add "Good Stepfather" as an alternative title?
