There should be more clarification for what isn't a fake Shemp, particularly examples like Rogue One where if Carrie Fisher and Peter Cushing had been alive they'd be four decades too old to reprise their roles, so the original actor's appearance was never an option. If those films are included, then any film with de-aging VFX or an actor playing a younger iteration would be a fake Shemp even though it's obviously not the case. Generally a dead actor requiring a fake Shemp had recently died and the project was initially planned around them being alive.

There should be a litmus test to determine if something qualifies as a fake Shemp: (1) the original actor shot material or was planned to be included in the project but died/declined/became unavailable (2) the Shemp was not being used for reasons that usually use a double (e.g. stunts, nudity).

Should this be in the trivia tab? Considering the fact that this talks about what’s going on behind the scenes.

In animation, doees it count as Fake Shemping if a voice actors audio clips are reused for the character, if the actor quit, died or was unavailable, or is that a seperate trope entirely?

Do I remember this right? One episode of SNL in 1992 opens with Dana Carvey as George Bush (senior) and Ross Perot, the latter pre-recorded on a monitor. At the end of the bit, Perot says, "I can't say it, you have to say it, live-boy," and Bush says "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!"
