Pulling this out:
- A bit of Truth in Television (and some spoofs) where soldiers from Vietnam or Korea come back home and years later, they are not given respect, even though they pretty much put their lives on the line for the common people. With the more recent wars though, this has started to change.
Because it's so very one-sided. To the other side, it was the exact opposite of for the common people. I'm not sure what a neutral description would even be, though; would it still fall under this trope?
It seems like the video game "Spore" is a perfect example of this trope, especially in the space age. You can single-handedly defeat alien races, travel to the galactic core, etc but you will always be called upon to deal with minor disease outbreaks among animals on the worlds you control. Don't they have any environmental enforcement officers?
