I've never felt that Fanon Discontinuity had to be for when everyone ignored something, and so I don't see the conflict between the two tropes.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman Hide / Show RepliesWhile I agree that there may be examples of a contested sequel which might fit better for Sequelitis or other related tropes I feel that there are a good deal of legitimate, actual examples out there and feel that the trope page itself shouldn't be messed with.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanShould the line about a Contested Sequel not being Fanon Discontinuity be there?
1) Fanon Discontinuity can be pretty subjective.
2) The nature of a Contested Sequel usually means there are people who don't like it, and people who don't like a sequel often pretend it's plot never happened.
3) There are several movies on this page that do have Fanon Discontinuity tabs on their YMMV pages.
Edited by MelindaRemoved:
- Team Fortress Classic and Team Fortress 2 is THE textbook example of this.
- On the topic of Valve Software, Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2.
Zero context, and even with a YMMV like this, I can't see how they qualify. As far as I know, Left 4 Dead 2 really only drew notable controversy because it came out too soon and was derided as a Mission-Pack Sequel. I'm sure you can find people still dissatisfied with anything, but I don't know of any major lasting divide in the fanbase.
As for Team Fortress... come on. "THE textbook example?" That's X Just X, and there isn't any reason to repair the phrasing rather than remove it, given that as of this edit, TF 2 is a very popular game that doesn't fit with the kind of examples on this page.
We're not just men of science, we're men of TROPE!Can add something to the My Little Pony example? I've seen a few scattered early gen fans that feel this way about Fi M as a whole.
Any way we can get an image that doesn't require a caption to explain it?
