There's a story that explain why a Long Coat became a Badass trade-mark?
Good question; the old was much better. I'll make an Image Pickin thread about it.
EDIT: That was nice and quick; it's been swapped back in. Archived thread.
Edited by Telcontar That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Just out of curiosity, can something like a windbreaker count as a badass longcoat?, or does it have to literally be a long coat?
Hide / Show RepliesIt needs to be a longcoat — a duster, a trenchcoat, a greatcoat, or something like it, as described in the trope definition. It's not just any coat.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.But I think there needs to be a trpe about "badasses" (what does that word even mean?'His ass is bad!' 'Well we'll have to remove it nd put him in the iron ass.' but I digress.) there needs to be a trope about the "badass guy" who wears a short jacket, like Indiana Jones or Ash i recent events.
Well, you could always just go look at the general page: Badass
Oh, and it's become a word in its own right. It uses "ass" as in "ass-kicking".
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.More example entries that are about the character. The trope is the coat itself. "[X]" or "[X] wears one" don't tell us anything about the coat.

I already added Kuwabara, maybe instead of discussing them here, you could' put them out there. Just saying
In Australia there is the 'Drizabone', which is the wet weather clothing of anyone in the Outback, often worn with an Akubra (rabbit-skin cowboy style hat). This has many mythical connotations in Australian lore - like being the sort of person who can just do his job no matter the weather.
More non-examples, incomplete examples and examples that aren't about the coat:
These need more information about the coat.
- Zed from Kiba.
- Deckard in Blade Runner.
- Michael from La Femme Nikita. Sometimes others, as the situation demanded.
This one needs to be less about why he's badass and more about the coat. Also, a person is not a Badass Longcoat. The coat is the Badass Longcoat.
- Walnut from Phantom Brave, one of the main antagonists, is a Jerk with a Heart of Gold Badass Longcoat with a catchy theme song and the ability to light his soul on fire for an attack.
More details about the coat needed:
- How is it that Claire Stanfield from Baccano isn't mentioned? His Ax Crazy personality helps, too.
And another one that doesn't even mention the coat:
- And then, of course, Sephiroth of Final Fantasy VII and Genesis in the Compilation, the two strongest SOLDIERs ever.
And some more that say nothing about the coat (all from Film, this time):
- Balthazar Blake in The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
- Tom Cody in Streets Of Fire.
- A Knights Tale has Chaucer and Prince Edward.
- Mr. Darcy in the 2005 film.
More examples that don't say anything about (or barely mention) the coat:
- Pokemon
- Hunter J has one. (Note that she'd be more badass were she actually allowed to win. She probably does quite well when she doesn't end up meeting Ash.)
- Cynthia also has one.
- In Hero Man, Will wears one after becoming a Skrugg.
- J in Heat Guy J
- Barrons from the Fever Series likes to wear these.
- Yaguruma from Kamen Rider Kabuto adopts one of these after he TookALevelInBadass
- Wyatt Cain in Tinman is a good example of this as well as Glitch. Tin Man is a policeman
- Jin Kazama of Tekken 6 sports one for his 2P costume.
- Gilder has one in Skies Of Arcadia.
- Multiple in Eternal Champions: Midnight, Dawson McShane, Larcen Tyler, and...the Senator?!
- What is the reward for reaching the level cap as a Starfleet Officer in Star Trek Online? That's right.
- Tyrant 103 in Resident Evil 2, and Nemesis in Resident Evil 3.
- Homestuck additionally gives us Nepeta. And yes, she's equal parts badass and adorable.
- Fantastic Four Worlds Greatest Heroes has this with Dr. Doom.
Wilbyr, there is no set administrative policy on which side the images go on. It's not on the page you linked — all it says there is "Also, if a left-aligned image viewed at 1280 resolution causes weird breaks in text or paragraphs, or interferes with lists or quotes, right-align it." This one wasn't doing that. It's also not on the page Images In Wiki Pages — again, all it says is if it screws up the formatting to have it on the left, it should moved to the right.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
Im new here, but I was looking for a Trope that is Badass Ragged cloak , I guess it should be a subtype of badass longcoat , but this usually comes with badass returns timeskip or badass beard , some classic examples are Kenshiro from fist kf the north star, Black Getter Robot, Megatron in Transformers 2 movie, Soul Reaver, Chirico from Votoms , last season's Deku from MHA. When a character goes into a quest for power he returns wearing such a ragged cloth
