Does it count if the character's clothing is only described in obscure supplementary material to the original work? I'm thinking of Gollum from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, who is only once mentioned as wearing a "ragged garment" but whom Tolkien in his notes to illustrators implied wore a significant amount of clothing.
