I am not sure why you are posting it here.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanProbably because it was titled Haat Films while the LetsPlay/, Funny/, YMMV/ and so forth namespaces are under Hat Films with one "a". I've copied the example over, but can you make sure not to include emoticons (this is outlined on Edit Tip 18)? First person is admittedly a tricky one on stuff about personal recommendations, but I'm pretty sure even Fanfic Recs is not a forum, and it's certainly not chatroom.
Edited by 151.230.205.36Oops, sorry about that >.< emoticons are so consistent with my internet writing these days that I rarely even note when I put them in :/ thanks for the help :)
Meh, I'm canceling this request, just because its been so long :P I'll just figure it out myself.
Edited by 74.84.95.126- Author Avatars: Well duh. It's Minecraft.
Not sure if or how this fits when HAT Films are primarily a Let's Play.
- Expy: Alsmiffy's Minecraft avatar head is basically a green version of Minecraft's Magma Cubes.
Is it just me, or is that really reaching out?
Hide / Show RepliesThe avatars they use are in their logo for other games usually and it is the most well known, so the author avatar example fits.
I need to see how the expy example is reaching out considering the heads look pretty darn similar and whatnot.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order."The avatars they use are in their logo for other games usually and it is the most well known, so the author avatar example fits."
Yes, avatar is in its name, but the trope description isn't literally about video game avatars and their skins. Unless djh3max, Trottimus and alsmiffy are fictionalised/exaggerated versions of Ross, Chris and Alex, I don't see how that would fit "fictionalized version of an author who appears as a character".
I think with the creation of the 'Origins' series (one day, anyway XD), which does in fact turn the Minecraft skins of DJH 3 MAX, Trottimus and Alsmiffy into actual characters of a storyline, calling the skins 'Avatars' probably fits.
However, I have to agree with Ho Oh that the magma cube thing is a stretch. They're definitely similar looking, but I've seen no evidence that the skin was created by its artist with this similarity in mind, nor that it was picked by Alsmiffy due to this similarity, and an 'expy' is an (and I quote) "a character from one series who is unambiguously and deliberately based on a character in another, older series". If no one intentionally made the Alsmiffy skin based on the magma skin, then it's not an expy, just a coincidence.
To add to that, Smith had chosen his skin long before Magma cubes were ever implemented into the game, so it's impossible for his skin to be based on them.
Good point. So, can we agree that Expy stays off the list then until an actual example comes along? Cool? Cool.
What about Author Avatar? I still think it counts due to the Origin series, so maybe just put a better summary for it? Something like [With the creation of their Minecraft-Machinima "Origins", the Sirs are now using their Minecraft skins to play scripted versions of themselves.] or something like that?
A couple of the tropes mention "Hatter" in the context of the trio rather than as a Fan Community Nickname. Is that a mistake, or are Ross, Alsmiffy and Trott sometimes called that as well?
Hide / Show RepliesNo, the community are members called 'Hatters', but the trio are referred to with the nickname 'Sirs'. Calling a 'Sir' a 'Hatter' would be incorrect. I can confirm this with Hat Chat episode 25, where during the question and answer section they acknowledge the 'Sir' nickname and explain its origins :)
Hey, could someone better with trope code help me out? I made a Hat Films fanfic recommendation page here https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FanficRecs/HaatFilms but I can't seem to make it show up on the main page. I can't figure out where I went wrong 0.o
