I've replaced a lot of instances of the words "transsexual" and "wheelchair-bound" with "transgender" and "wheelchair user" respectively, how come I'm not yet banned?

(Side note - please don't ban me just because of this comment as I do actually contribute with stuff like making new pages, wicking and fixing grammar/formatting errors)

Edited by Buttbuttinate 1,000 years from now there will be no guys and no girls, just wankers.

Why is this bannable? Removing random instances of swearing doesn't seem all too harmful.

I just found out the hard way that - if your computer has profanity filters - you have got to be incredibly careful when editing, because sometimes your filter takes the... creative liberty... of censoring things in the "edit" section when the edit page loads. What results is an absolute disaster. Is there perhaps a good way to word this or put it in the article as a sort of warning? I'd hate for this to happen to someone else who has profanity filters on their computer.

Welcome to TV Tropes notes that for TV Tropes. As for this article, maybe "On wikis, sometimes this is the product of profanity filters that censor the text in the edit box".

Okay, I think I'll do that... and I'll turn off my filter first.

Edit: Nix my last statement. I just saw the "nannybots" mention in this article. That should serve as enough of a warning.

Well, I do agree that this is a very annoying form of nitpicking, but at the same time, while we don't necessarily have to be "kid friendly", we should at least aim to be "classy" (read: we're not Encyclopedia Dramatica). You know how the "Wiki Tips" says that memes do not automatically make something clever, witty, or cool? Well the same goes for swear words. The reason a Precision F-Strike carries impact is because an obscenity is used to make a statement dramatic. The impact is lost when you're just using expletives all the time. So...can there be a happy medium?

For the curious: Fast Eddie told me on an old Ask The Tropers thread that removing gratuitous F-bombs (and I mean gratuitous) is OK and you can be witty without them. Petty stuff and censoring stuff you just don't like, isn't so OK.

I don't get out in the community much, so I assume this is still current policy.

Actually a girl.

Excuse me, but does this wiki actively discourage Bluenose Bowdlerization? Because, just saying, but I personally find it annoying.
