resolved A book about the story of arachne Literature
I vaguely remember this book about the story of arachne ( a human turned into a spider by athena). Athena turns her into a spider because she felt death was too good for her hubris. The book repeatedly says "spin, spin, spin"
At the end of the book, Athena is literally describes as a bitch and a witch. The book outright says "she is no heroine".
Does anyone else recall this book?
resolved Fan song for Maximum Ride? Music
There's this fan song for the Maximum Ride series that my sibling and I loved when we were kids, but don't remember the name of or where it was posted. I don't know all the lyrics, but I do remember the chorus:
Nevermore, I will fight to the end/ If you want something you don't pretend/ Not a piece of your game, not part of your lie/ Don't tell me you don't know I'm Maximum Ride
There was also a pre-chorus part that went:
Trust you nobody trusts you/ My game you'll never win it/ Let me guess, he's the first to die?/ Well just 'cause you can read minds/ Doesn't mean it's true, doesn't mean I care/ You know he's mine
I've tried asking some people in the MR fandom itself, but nobody seems to know of this song. If anyone here has any idea what I'm talking about, I would be so incredibly grateful for the name of the song/a link to it - it's been driving me crazy for almost two years now.
Edited by MissGemKnightresolved Sepia-toned afterlife Live Action TV
This might have been a movie; for a bit I was sure it was the HBO adaptation of Angels in America, but I just rewatched that and it wasn't that. I mostly just remember a particular scene. As best I remember: the main character finds himself in a monochromatic afterlife (maybe heaven, maybe limbo). It's very rural/pastoral - you know, trees, dirt roads, fields, etc. I think he meets multiple people, but he definitely meets at least one: a little girl who is heavily implied to be God, or maybe Death. The main character might be dying or might be already dead, and I dimly remember he's trying to either not die or not go to hell. This is very vague - sorry - but I feel like it was relatively recent (something produced within the last decade), so if it jogs anyone's memory, please let me know.
Edited by LaughingGirafferesolved (SOLVED) Simpsons Episode with Giant Robot Itchy/Scratchy Western Animation
My dad told me a funny story about a time he saw one episode of The Simpsons that involved external factors I won't go into here, but to make it simple, he said that the episode featured a theme park ride with a giant robot version of Itchy or Scratchy juggling capsules with people in them. It's not the season 6 episode Itchy and Scratchy Land, just to make it clear. As for the time frame, based on what he said, perhaps somewhere around 2013 or so.
Edited by KingofNightmaresresolved That one 3D animal superhero show? Western Animation
All I remember is that the leader of that superhero group was a wolf (his name probably starting with the letter L). In one scene, the gang are in his old town/city, and he starts howling from nostalgia. I don't remember where it aired on either, but I think it was on either CN, Disney, or Netflix...

resolved '90s Thomas the Tank Engine clone about boats
I'm trying to place a Thomas the Tank Engine clone from when I was a kid ('90s-early 2000s) about a harbor full of boats with faces. Was reminded of it after stumbling across the page for TUGS, but that's not the one.
I think the main character was a tugboat, and I remember the Harbormaster, a dockside building with a face, being a significant character, and an underwater oil drilling platform being another one.
Edited by StarSwordresolved Bug School Western Animation
An animated short set in a school for insects, but they're cartoony and sort of humanoid.
From what I recall, the main character is a smaller bug, like a brown fly. I think he had spiky hair and was wearing a yellow T-shirt and red sneakers. He also played the flute. He's picked on by these other bigger bugs/students, but the flute bug saves the bully bugs from being under a glass or from some peril. It's a bit fuzzy.
There was also this female bug teacher who was attractive and could sing. She was like a light purple, with big black hair and wearing a short black dress.
Judging by the animation and clothes the bugs were wearing, I'm guessing early 1990s was when it made.
resolved Orange and Purple things - Nickelodeon Western Animation
A series of 1 minute shorts that popped up between shows on Nickelodeon in the early 2000s. Not sure if they only showed up in the UK Nick. They were CGI and were about these two odd creatures - one orange, the other purple - that I think had trumpet-shaped snouts. They spoke in squeaky noises and it was focused on slapstick humour.
resolved Captain No-Beard (bear with me) Western Animation
I remember this show clearly, but even though I know the name, the era and channel it was aired, I can't find any trace of it online.
The show was called Captain No-Beard (unrelated to the Wiggles character) and was about a dorky-looking pirate captain* who had a burly crew with little respect for him. He'd go on various adventures, though being sort of wimpy and nice, he was completely incompetent at piracy. He also had a waifish, blonde, girlfriend in a white dress who lived in the town the pirates docked in. I don't recall there being an antagonist on the show, but there may have been.
The art style was storybook-like; colourful with round character designs, aimed probably at a 7-8 year old demographic. Also, it was traditional 2D animation and digitally painted.
I should also point out that I watched this on the UK version of Discovery Kids, via the Sky TV network, circa the early to mid 2000s. I don't know if the programming was that different from other countries, but I thought I'd mention.
It could very well be that the show was made in continental Europe and might have been under a different name, but that's just a theory.
If any of this sounds familiar, I'd appreciate some assistance.
Thanks!
- Short black curly hair, red bandana with white polka dots, had a face like Jim Jinkin's Doug, black & white striped shirt, I think he also wore a waistcoat and raggy-ended trousers and no shoes. He was also shorter than everyone around him.
resolved stop motion short - graffiti artist in jail draws jungle Western Animation
Saw this on TV once years ago. I'll lay down some basics: British production (I think), stop-motion clay animation, 1990s.
This young guy is spraying graffiti on a wall and gets caught by a police officer. He ends up in a jail cell in a stripey prisoner uniform. He then uses chalk(?) to draw a jungle on the back wall of his cell, kicks off his clothes and starts to swing on a vine into the jungle scene. Cuts to a shot of a passing moustachoied guard barely noticing what's going on in the cell. There may be more to this, but that's as far as I remember.
resolved Comedy Anime Vampire Anime
This was something I discovered on You Tube a few years ago that I intended to watch, but I've lost the name.
It was about a vampire with a female human assistant. He was kind of a goofball and she was kind of hot-headed, but wanted to be his girlfriend and (I think?) for him to drink her blood. He refuses, because drinking human blood made him aggressive. There were also two other humanoid monster people (at least I think they were) living with them; one was a girl who lived in a fridge. It's hazy, but I think they had some kind of job as detectives or monster hunters - I recall that because of seeing the female assistant trying to wake up everyone because they had a job and needed to get on the move.
From what I remember of the image quality and art style, it was definitely mid-1990s. Also the vampire guy had neck-length white hair and a dark cloak.
resolved 1990s Brother in Apartment Live Action TV
A mid-to-late 1990s kids TV show about two brothers who live with their parents in an apartment.
The older brother (the main character) was around 11-12 and the younger brother was about 8. If I recall correctly, the older one would have these "imagine spots" to do with some life situation or another.
I remember some distinct parts of two episodes: One had the older brother in the park talking with his friends about germs, which then cut to an imagine spot where big bro returns home and finds his parents (in hazmat suits) have turned the apartment into an ultra-clean zone. They take the baseball mit he has and put in a bag and then it cuts to the little bro in a hazmat suit with a decontamination spray, laughing maniacally, before going back to reality.
The other moment was where the little bro thinks there's monsters under his bed. The wacky superintendent/handyman of the building (guy with a moustache) gave him "anti-monster spray" to use under his bed. The following morning, the kid has used up the spray can.
resolved Comic - Man joins brand design team Literature
I'm trying to help my brother find something. He thinks it may have been one story in a larger book, possibly one that mixed prose and comics, or not. Here's his description:
Man joins design team finding a brand for google-like corporation
I remember it was in an anthology of the best American works of fiction or something similar. It may have been the best american nonrequired reading anthology. I read it in the last two years and I believe it was published in the last five, but am not positive about the latter. The story is somewhat dystopian - the corporation has become a huge player in world affairs.
The main character is a young man who joins a design team creating a new brand and logo for a google-out-of-control like organization.
During the story the man is afflicted by a mysterious cold-like sickness supposedly cause by plants on the property. He gets medicine from a semi-sinister doctor at the company, which helps him. They tell him that the sickness is due to allergies, but we never get the full explanation.
The main character goes for a swim each day and sees a woman sitting by the pool that he lacks the courage to talk to. During his last swim, he looks up and she is no longer there. He wonders whether he imagined her entirely.
The design team is led by a man who is somewhat obsessed with primality. He leads the team to break in to the headquarters of their rivals in the final act of the comic.
The last scene is the main character looking at a bloody handprint after injuring himself during the break in. He decides that this will be the new logo of the corporation.
Edited by Subsetresolved Character's date's sister waxed him earlier
This was from either a film or show, I can't remember. Here's how it goes:
A character (male) goes to get a waxing alone. It's very painful. Later, he meets with his girlfriend, and then her sister arrives. He recognizes the sister as the same person who waxed him. Yikes.
I tried asking about this on Reddit, and they suggested The 40-Year-Old Virgin, which was different than what I remember. So don't suggest that, please.
Possible languages: English, Indonesian, Korean, Japanese, or Chinese.
Edited by hARded2000resolved Family with wild early 2010 maybe?
I remember that as a child between 2010-2014 I had seen a scene of a family (a man with children) in a tent that was in their house, probably the living room and then they arrived, one by one they saw each other's non-domestic animals, apart from a parrot, I assure you that it is not Ace Ventura or Jumanji from the 90s, also the clip seemed to be made in 2000-early 2010, please help me find the scene, or I tried asking on reddit but it didn't work.

Edited by DrNoPumaresolved Opera singer joins army in WWII Film
I remember seeing the start of this film on TV sometime in the 1980s, but it was much older than that. At a guess, I'd say 1950s or early 1960s.
I can only clearly remember two parts. The first is the opening narration in which the narrator says that all men between 21 and 45 were required to register for the draft, this having been decided by a congress full of men slightly older than this. The second is the protagonist, a famous opera singer who has been drafted, filling out his enlistment papers and handing them to the sergeant. The sergeant looks at the papers and tells him he had made a mistake, and that the question asked him for his weekly income, not his yearly income. The protagonist replies that that his is weekly income, and the sergeant does a double take.
I forget all the details, but a guy goes into a small building (I think it's offering free somethings) and ends up talking with this "person" made of what looks like ground meat with a smiley face carved into it before eventually the walls fall down, revealing the man is just a pillar on the floor (both made of ground meet seemingly) and the guy gets eaten by monster that was using under the building and using it as a lure (the meat pillar was part of the monster the whole time) before it resets the trap.
EDIT: Nevermind, I found it, it's The Christmas Grotto by Will Mc Daniel.
