YMMV / Young Justice Abridged

Go To

  • Broken Base: The decision not to Abridge Batman: The Killing Joke. Are the team being too timid by not tackling it and leaving a lot of potential lampooning untapped, or were they wise in their decision to steer clear of a rather controversial DC Animated film?
  • Fountain of Memes: So many that it's hard to list all of them.
  • Growing the Beard: The moment they found footage without the Cartoon Network digital on-screen graphic.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In Court of Owls Abridged, Alfred founded the Court of Owls as a kinky sex club. A blink-and-you'll-miss-it gag in Harley Quinn implies they actually are one in that continuity.
    • Someone at DC must love watching Suicide Squad Abridged, since Justice League Dark: Apokolips War depicts King Shark as being mostly unable to say anything except "King Shark is a shark."
  • Ho Yay: One of Cadmus' computers who is a dude and Robin.
    • And again later. When Bane asks if his Spanish guitar is sexy, Robin says "...a little."
    • You may not have thought it possible but Joker and Batman's Ho Yay has been cranked up about thirty notches and it manages to be thoroughly unsettling.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Orm tries to be a good man but constantly gets crapped on by everyone while having his perfectly intelligent ideas thrown in his face with his mother in particular frequently taking time to rub it in his face just how worthless she thinks he is. Thankfully, things start looking up for him after Aquaman actually treats him with some decency, causing him to defect from the Light.
  • Memetic Mutation: Sort of inverted from the usual. "I'm the goddamn Batman!" Is significantly more badass, if insane, here than in the original version. There
    • Young Justice Bitches!
    • The personalities the writers gave to the team.
    • MENTAL BROFIST!

    • Every other sentence out of Red Hood's mouth.
      • His altered version of the "none of you are safe" speech.
      • His absolutely brilliant Evil Laugh.
      • His "Death List" and "People I Hate List"
      • 'Cause I tied them up silly!
      • Shooting some gangsters, cutting some pimps. You know how it is...
      • No, you listen to me you Jafar looking mother fucker!

    • Sheesh, you act like this is the first time you were hung from the side of a building!
    • So why don't you take the base from your voice and back the fuck up Junior.
    • Bird-hoes
  • Nightmare Fuel
    • Alfred and how! Forget the kind, loyal butler from canon. This is not him.
Alfred:You see, your parents and I had an understanding: they stayed out of my way and I allowed them to stay in my sweet-ass mansion. It was a good deal really.
    Bruce: I'm not following.
    Bruce: I...I...uh...
Alfred: Now where is that sandwich, you stupid boy?
    Bruce: C-C-C-C-Coming right up.
    Alfred: It better be.
  • Older Than They Think: Although many viewers stated that Superman in this adaptation immediately makes them think of Trump, actually according to Word of God, this was not what they had in mind since the series started in 2010, before Trump is a household name. This Superman is based on his Type 2 Eagleland characterisation during the Forties and the Fifties. All they had to do was to toss that Superman into modern times and the script wrote itself. As quoted:
Well funny you should ask that, because a lot of people do seem to think our Superman is a parody of Trump, but we've been doing this Superman since 2010 before his whole presidential race, that was jsut a funny coincidence lol, or they say he's a parody of Bandit Keith, when I think our Wolf is a better parallel for that, since they both end every sentence with the same word "America!" or "Woof!" lol.
But anyway, our Superman is actually more of an homage/expansion of the 1940/50's Superman, the one that said "You can slap a jap!" or had a sexist attitude towards Lois who was only there to marry him, and stuff like that, oh, he was a very different Superman back then, and we wondered "Wouldn't it be funny if that monstrous Superman was alive today?" and well, the rest wrote itself lol
  • Tear Jerker: Amazo laying the beatdown on Superboy, using Superman's voice to go on and on about how much he doesn't care about him.
    • In Shades of Red: Part 3 Tim asks Black Canary about Jason Todd. Despite her usual attitude, Black Canary's reaction really shows how much Jason's 'death' affected the Justice League.
      • All of Jason's sub-plot and how it ends.
    • The future of Superman's Presidential run. Even after all of Superman's bigoted Eagleland beliefs, Batman still had faith in him as a good man. But he's lost that faith to the point of retiring his one rule.
DKR!Batman: Fuck my one rule. Uncensored.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Orm was supposed to be a morally-gray villain at best at the start of his appearance in "Throne of Atlantis", but the amount of abuse and disrespect heaped on Orm despite his honest grievances towards Atlantis can feel incredibly disproportionate, especially the constant verbal abuse he received from Queen Atlanna for what was implied to have been his entire life. It's almost as if the Atlantians were begging for him to snap and turn genocidal tyrant.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Queen Atlanna was intended to be portrayed as a Troubled Abuser towards Orm due to her projecting her hatred of Atlantian traditions and Orm's father onto him, but her abuse is just so vicious that a lot of viewers actually felt Orm was completely in the right for killing her. It doesn't help that she also was willing to dismiss Arthur as well when she thought he might've grown up to become a wimp.
