YMMV / Yggdra Unison

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: A number of characters tell you to do what you want with them when captured, which is bad enough on its own, but Nessiah prefaces this phrase with "please". A number of confrontations are just begging to be misinterpreted, as well, with some of the worst offenders being Inzaghi vs. Russell and Pamela vs. Ishiene.
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: How ruthless or merciful your characters are tends to depend entirely upon your style of play, as does whether rivals forgive each other or fight to the death, whether traitors are given another chance or killed, and so on. The defeat-vs-kill Duel Events differ in tone fairly wildly, so a lot of things like this are up to you!
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The game's official materials and advertisements (and even the musical cues) all subtly suggest that Gulcasa should be considered the true protagonist of the game. Also, Nessiah has started to become much more popular in Japan since the DS remake's release.
  • Game-Breaker: Nessiah's nameless soldiers, which are all ridiculously overpowered, and more than make up for the difficulty he tends to have in recruiting generals early into the game.
  • Memetic Badass: Low attack score be damned, Monica is essentially the next Gulcasa, and her better title descriptions make this very clear if you use her diligently enough.
  • Memetic Molester: Ortega is still rather interested in Roswell and pretty ladies, but Pamela seems to be out to steal his title.
  • Moe: Suddenly everyone is about fifty times as adorable as before, since the lighthearted story gives them all a chance to breathe and let their cuter personality traits show.
  • Self-Imposed Challenge: Don't kill anyone! Find Mistel and Nessiah on your first playthrough! Form an active party of the five key characters of Yggdra Union (Yggdra, Milanor, Gulcasa, Nessiah, and Kylier) and finish the game with them!
    • Or conversely, kill everything and make it through the game with your original roster.
  • That One Boss: Out of all the enemies, Gulcasa employs the most aggressive and intelligent tactics. Given the fact that unit entry points are destroyable in Castle Bronquia and you need a Unison of three people or more to damage him at all, it's highly recommended to take him on early in the game or cross your fingers and pray to get Medusa Eye while fighting him. Can be a Guide Dang It! if you're trying to recruit him with a main character that he doesn't like, as you need over 30 conquered territories to force him to behave in that case.
