YMMV / Xander Quest: Reborn on the Hellmouth

  • Arc Fatigue: Even accounting for the format of 'half a conversation per update', some arcs really dragged on with very few things being done, most notoriously the Vampire Birthday Party arc which managed to engulf more than three entire threads.
    • Also of note is the Familiar Binding Ritual; due to a faction of players wanting to make the ritual as strong as possible, the quest was significantly delayed despite technically being able to undertake it right at that point- which, given that the Ritual was a sidequest that had been underway for the majority of the quest's run by that point, was poorly received by some.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Weighted votes. They're a system whereby one (or more) of the possible options to vote for has a catch in that they don't follow the normal vote mechanics- be it by having a number of additional votes attached to the choice (Including, on the occasion that sealed many players's dislike for the mechanic, a bonus number of +60, in a medium where getting more votes than ten or so is a sign of an incredibly popular Quest) or by adding a multiplier to the number of votes an option gets. This has on several occasions led to bandwagoning the vote with the least additional votes on the assumption that less weight = better (which was often the case earlier on in the quests run), or on the +60 vote, having two options with near-equal votes lose to an option that almost nobody had voted for leading to cries of foul play and railroading.
    • Game-over stats, such as Corruption, Traumatic Memories and Past Life Experience are also disliked, as it's often difficult-to-impossible to tell if a vote will lead to an increase in one- and in the case of Past Life Experience, ranking up beyond a certain point leads to the stat increasing on its own.
