    • Choosing Dhalsim as one of the player's characters or having him in the opposite team will lead to the player seeing one of the most hilarious full-face portraits right before the fight itself. Bison has a similar expression, albeit not nearly as comically exaggerated.
    • Unlike later installments, when the first character on a team is eliminated in this game, they skip across the ground like a stone across water until they're off-screen. This can look really goofy if you finish someone off with a light attack and they have to bounce all the way to the other side of the stage before they're completely off-screen from a mere tap. Later games in the series just leave the defeated character on the ground then have them blink out of the stage when/after their partner arrives.
  • Porting Disaster: The PS1 port omitted the Tag Team gameplay due to the system's limitations. The only way to play a full four-character match is to use a secret code then pick a team that is opposite your opponent's team (so if they pick Ryu/Ken, you have to pick Ken/Ryu in order to play a tag match). This also meant that the sprites sometimes looked choppy in motion, as certain animation frames had to be omitted.
  • Signature Scene: Cyclops and Ryu shaking hands during the game's title screen. Due to XvSF (and the Marvel vs. Capcom series by extension) being one of the most recognizable crossovers ever, it's become such an iconic shot that other major crossovers have referenced it in some shape or form.
  • That One Attack: Apocalypse's Drill. If you see him conjure it, get ready to either jump precisely or experience a rapid Advancing Wall of Doom of potentially endless Cherry Tapping (the drill hits upwards of 50 times), especially if you don't remember to use Advancing Guard to briefly push block Apocalypse away and mitigate chip damage.
