YMMV / Wimzie's House

Go To

  • Les Yay: In “The Magic Crayon”, Wimzie kisses Lulu on the cheek, which makes the little goblin squeal in delight.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Simply put, the puppets here are off-putting, to say the least (in part because they’re, well, monsters or bizarre hybrids).
  • One True Threesome: Wimzie/Horace/Jonas is quite popular amongst the fanbase.
  • Realism-Induced Horror: The show addresses some realistic fears that a child or an adult may face:
    • "I'm Scared for Daddy": After Rousso breaks his arm while rescuing a family from a fire, Wimzie doesn't want him to go back to work because he might get hurt again. Graziella tells her that she worries about Rousso's safety too, but that he needs to go to work to keep others safe.
    • In the subplot of "I Dare You!" Yaya has hiccups that won't go away. Loulou tries to scare them out of her with masks and costumes, without success. But near the end, when Yaya sees Horace climbing a dangerous ladder on a dare from Jonas, she's so scared that her hiccups finally stop.
    • One episode shows that Loulou broke her leg at home. While her friends dote on her, Jonas is distant. Then Loulou casually reveals to her friends that while she was getting a glass of water from the bathroom, she tripped on Jonas's rollerskate. Jonas then goes to Loulou and apologizes; their mother had told him to put away his rollerskates, and he says it was his fault that she got hurt.
    • The kids overhear a conversation and mistakenly think that Wimzie's parents can't pay the mortgage on their house, meaning they may be moving. They lie to a curious Wimzie that it was their friend Mitzi's parents; even though the kids do a bake sale and yard sale, the money isn't enough. Horace, Jonas, and Loulou start crying thinking that Wimzie is moving away. Fortunately, the parents intervene when they hear about the misunderstanding; they explain that Mr. Melonhead down the road is the one moving.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: The title song from the episode "Achoo!" sounds quite a bit like the "Achoo! Achoo! Achoo!" song from Madeline's Christmas. Especially since both songs feature Sonja Ball, who voices Wimzie here and Nicole in the Madeline special. They were also both produced by Cinar.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: There are other friends, neighbors and relatives that are mentioned frequently, but due to the show’s Minimalist Cast, we never get to meet them.
  • Values Resonance: For a preschool show about daycare, it’s pretty progressive.
    • Wimzie being a dragon-bird is meant to be a metaphor for biracial children, but they don’t make it her defining trait and treat it like it’s a normality.
    • Graziella and Rousso have full-time jobs and don’t appear much because of it, but at the same time are Good Parents and Happily Married. They even clearly enjoy their jobs. Graziella also has a traditionally "masculine" job (she's a pilot) and this is treated as perfectly normal.
