• Cult Classic: Despite its shortcomings, plus several of the rather innovative features that became commonplace in later fighters, Weaponlord has something of a cult following (being covered by the likes of Arin and Jon and especially Matt and Woolie helped somewhat), as the game was designed to deliberately cater to veteran fighting game fans (and thus was very inaccessible to beginners).
• It's Hard, So It Sucks!: Hardcore Gaming 101 stated that Weaponlord, while outrageously difficult, filled with incredibly unconventional controls, and having a limited roster, also manages to be an outrageous experience.
