Continuity Lockout: Generally avoided to a wider extent than even other murdergames, given each WCB round is standalone. Round 5, by virtue of tying into not only past rounds but also tons of other murdergames, including some references to games not represented in the cast, took great care to limit most references to simple background gags and keep the story self-contained, but the players in the game chat, in preparing and talking about their other games, regularly had to explain things to one another such as who the Knifeglaive are and why The Foundation goes by so many alternate titles.
Jerks Are Worse Than Villains: Invoked in R3 itself, where Simon's Fantastic Racism derails the culprit's MTB and practically the entire game rounds on him instead of the one who actually committed the murder. Out-of-universe, it seems to hold, with Simon being seen as the biggest loser even (or especially) by his own player whereas most of the actual culprits were more sympathetic.
"The RNG hates kids." note All the under-18 characters in Round 1 died, and only two under-18s in Round 2 survived. Not the case for R3, where multiple teenagers made it to the end even before the earlier-than-usual revival of the dead.
Declaring that R3 is a stealth Airlocked, Unknown Seas and/or It's Curtains crossover.note Rounds 2, 3, and 3 of Unknown Seas, It's Curtains, and We Could Be ran back-to-back with a lot of player overlap. The space station setting of R3 was also very similar to the general concept of Airlocked, especially since the Big Bad of R3 made an appearance in R2 of Airlocked. Sometimes memes and/or plot content from the two prior games are referenced. With Unknown Seas specifically, the game shares one of its mods, multiple items from the regain gacha pool, and the R2 Disc-One Final Boss is the WCB R3 Big Bad (played by said mod). Eventually the Unknown Seas connection became canon with a note in the final investigation mentioning a Jack who'd chosen not to join the rest of the crew and was instead going with a "boat" plan.
R3 goes hard/every trial ends with someone in hospital. note The very first case of Round 3 had a gore warning, and the case involved Tyzias getting her arm mauled by a berserker Red. Then in the second trial Simon revealed the extent of his Fantastic Racism and got beaten up by Ryoko.
R3: Female Friends Spend Raucous Night Validating The Living Shit Out Of Each Other note Based on thisOnion article, describing the relationship between the teenage girls in round 3 where they constantly support and encourage each other.
R3: Horse racist. note A term used by Jared to describe Simon'sFantastic Racism after he acts rude about Butt Stallion, which gets picked up as a general descriptor of him.
We Could Be Stupid. note A play on the game's name and the meta-meme of taking image macros with text in the form "I might be stupid, but ____" and cropping out the bottom text. Used when the characters are being especially stupid or silly.
R5: We Could Be Round 5 Stands In Solidarity With SAG-AFTRA note The round took place during the SAG-AFTRA strike (and the many other workforce actions that comprised "Hot Strike Summer") and a plot thread that culminates in the last player trial has Akane talking the turrets into unionizing.
