YMMV / Warlord of Mars

Go To

  • Breakout Character: Dejah Thoris. This entry could easily be called Dejah Thoris rather than Warlord of Mars given the far larger comic appearances by Dejah compared to John Carter. It's getting to the point where Warlord of Mars is so overshadowed in Dynamite Comics as to be almost forgotten, in a situation similar to Morrigan compared to her debut series Darkstalkers
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Phondari, a minor character from the Dejah Thoris: Warlord of Mars spin-off was surprisingly popular due to being a sympathetic First-Born female. She went on to (unexpectedly) appear as a major character in Pathfinder: Worldscape.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Dejah's brother Kajak crossed this when he poisoned their mother, believing that she willingly abandoned him when in reality he was kidnapped by rival nobles, and he didn't even regret it upon hearing the truth.
    • Voro in Green Men of Mars when he is revealed to be kidnapping Red Martian females and carving them up as meat for his fellow Tharks.
  • Theiss Titillation Theory: Any female Martian is dressed in gold ornaments and nothing else.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The 2016 Dejah Thoris run wasn't well-received for many reasons such as altering Dejah's outfit (a similar complaint leveled at Vampirella's costume change which was unveiled together) to be "more practical". The run itself wasn't very popular for other reasons, the main one is that they unnecessarily changed Dejah's backstory in that she is revealed to have been adopted all along and she embarks on a quest to find her true identity. The following comics have reversed the change and ignore it ever happened.
