* BreakoutCharacter: Dejah Thoris. This entry could easily be called ''Dejah Thoris'' rather than ''Warlord of Mars'' given the far larger comic appearances by Dejah compared to John Carter. It's getting to the point where ''Warlord of Mars'' is so overshadowed in Creator/DynamiteComics as to be almost forgotten, in a situation similar to Morrigan compared to her debut series ''VideoGame/{{Darkstalkers}}''

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Possibly one of the reasons Black Martians are depicted as grey-skinned humanoids instead of being just like black humans like [[ValuesDissonance Burroughs had originally envisioned]] was to avoid any UnfortunateImplications by depicting black people as a race of raiders that produces nothing and only steals from others, and the males' favorite pastime is to kidnap women from other races, such as the Red and White Martians. Granted, this is mitigated by the presence of sympathetic Black Martians such as Phondari and Xodar, but still.
** A special issue was written to provide an ending to ''Skeleton Men of Jupiter'', one of Burroughs' last novels that was unfinished due to his death.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The 2016 ''Dejah Thoris'' run wasn't well-received for many reasons such as altering Dejah's outfit (a similar complaint leveled at ComicBook/{{Vampirella}}'s costume change which was unveiled together) to be "more practical". The run itself wasn't very popular for other reasons, the main one is that they unnecessarily changed Dejah's backstory in that she is revealed to have been adopted all along and she embarks on a quest to find her true identity. The following comics have reversed the change and ignore it ever happened.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Phondari, a minor character from the ''Dejah Thoris: Warlord of Mars'' spin-off was surprisingly popular due to being a sympathetic First-Born female. She went on to ([[UnexpectedCharacter]] unexpectedly) appear as a major character in ''ComicBook/PathfinderWorldscape''.
