YMMV / Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider

Go To

  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • How did the soldiers in the first area of Lost Ruins (that isn't a Womb Level, unlike the second) get infested by fleshy monsters? In the area after you encounter them, there's fleshy wasp-like monsters with huge stingers that serve as Airborne Mooks. Considering how several species of wasp use ovipositor parasitizing, it's likely that these similar monsters might have implanted the parasites into the soldiers.
    • Why does Moonrider have the ability to absorb and use the other Guardians' powers instead of Lunacy? He's associated with the Moon, which reflects the sunlight making it appear bright. He reflects others' abilities! He was most likely created to be a Jack of All Trades unit to either support another Guardian in the same mission or to be deployed in a different area that required a specific expertise, while a Guardian with the same ability was busy somewhere else.
    • How does Moonrider suddenly gain the ability to charge up a huge blast of energy that destroys Sunseeker, (seemingly) himself, and the Penralese Space Station? He likely gained Sunseeker's power after the player depletes his health bar, and Sunseeker's powers involve energy blasts!
  • Game-Breaker: Geocrash is to this game what the Fire Shield was to the developers' Odallus: The Dark Call — a very exploitable Invulnerable Attack that trivializes even the final boss fight.
  • Goddamned Bats: The Fuuma Shuriken-wielding enemies primarily found in the Asura's Fleet stage are essentially Shield-Bearing Mooks, deflecting non-special attacks with their shuriken. They only stop blocking when they throw their shuriken, which has an odd boomeranging trajectory plus a large hitbox that makes it tricky to avoid, and even after they're killed their thrown shuriken still stays on screen and can still hurt you.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Darkchaser's stage, the Lost Ruins appears to be a simple cave at first. Then, there's a short Mook Debut Cutscene where one of the run-of-the-mill soldier mooks start screaming as a fleshy creature bursts out of his head, with more suffering the same fate as you head on. Things only get worse from there in the second half where you descend into a H.R. Giger-esque Womb Level filled with blood, more fleshy creatures, and more hapless soldiers having their heads messily replaced with fleshy horrors.
