YMMV / Urrezko Kaiola

Go To

  • Arc Fatigue: Chapter 3. Its pre-release arc went on for way, way too long.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
  • Draco in Leather Pants: Almost every antagonist, including Abby, Lehiakide, Lance, and Ross Blackwood. Notably excluding Abusari.
  • Genius Bonus: There's a lot of this if you know the original sources of the songs played in certain areas.
    • Abby's early appearances are associated with the main theme of Doki Doki Literature Club!. Both Abby and Monika from DDLC are sentient Artificial Intelligence who flirt with players.
    • "Welcome to the Hotel Kaiola", the Hotel Kaiola's theme, is a remix of Merlee's Mansion from Super Paper Mario. Both the Hotel Kaiola and Merlee's Mansion have you stuck in a fancy mansion for an extended amount of time, both are run by a Faux Affably Evil shapeshifter, and both are That One Level.
    • On Chapter 3, Abusari's theme is a remix of Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans, which is an unused track in Undertale. The entiretly of the Hotel Kaiola is a bonus level ripped into the main storyline, so it's safe to say that this song would've gone unused in the "original" Urrezko Kaiola.
    • Kara's first theme is a remix of Fracktail's Theme, also from Super Paper Mario. Both Kara and Fracktail are Artificial Intelligence guardians set to guard something by their precursors, and both are AntiVillains.
    • The Quiz theme is a remix of the file select theme from Super Mario 64, which was memetically used by pannenkoek2012 while teaching very obscure gaming trivia.
    • Iklusea's second theme is called "Autophobia". Autophobia is the fear of being alone.
    • Kara's second theme is a remix of Stone Cold from FNAF World. Scott Cawthon could also accurately be described with the title of "Game Master" in that game...
    • The theme for Tximista's chase sequence might seem distinctly too cheery and unfitting for such a scene, but when you play Ultra Despair Girls it makes perfect sense...
  • Good Bad Bugs: It's possible to get infinite Mansion Keys by entering and leaving the mansion in Chapter 3 and re-playing the event where a key falls on your head. It's this trope because those keys allow you to skip a massive (mostly tedious) portion of Chapter Three.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Chapter Seven had The Band, an obvious allusion to Five Nights at Freddy's, even with a minigame that replicated FNAF 1's gameplay. A plot point surrounding the band was that the original Bassist was killed before the story started and needing to be replaced by Lance. Then a few months later, Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach released, containing a background plot where Glamrock Bonnie, the original bassist of the Pizzaplex's band, disappeared and was replaced by Montgomery Gator under suspicious circumstances.
  • That One Level: The Mansion in chapter 2. It has enemies that can kill you in one shot, no battle involved. It's also huge and very hard to navigate.
  • Unpopular Popular Character: Hoo boy...
    • Kara is almost universally disliked In-Universe. But her design and personality endear her to a lot of players.
    • Iruzurra is even more disliked than her, given his economy-destroying shenanigans, but also has his share of fans.
