- Aluminum Christmas Trees: Yes, the Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota is a real local attraction, located in Darwin, Minnesota. The song also makes reference to several other roadside attractions, all of which are (or were) real: Elvis-A-Rama (now closed), The Tupperware Museum, The Boll Weevil Monument, Cranberry World (now closed), The Shuffleboard Hall of Fame, Poodle Dog Rock (Located in Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada), and The Mecca of Albino Squirrels. There was also an actual "Twine Ball Inn" (actually a restaurant) near the Twine Ball, which closed down in 2015.
- Unintentional Period Piece: "The Biggest Ball of Twine In Minnesota" could easily stand in for any time period for the whole song... until the single line "In our '53 Desoto". That car was aged but reasonable to afford in the 1980's and could help establish the narrator as a Disco Dan, but now you wonder why he'd be driving that ancient museum piece. Additionally, the line "I put in a Slim Whitman tape" further dates the song to the 1980s due to the decline of the cassette tape in the 2000s.
