YMMV / Two Dragons

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor: Seeing how smug and cowardly the Van are and all the horrid crimes they have committed, it is immensely satisfying seeing their smug words tossed back at them and killed.
  • Complete Monster: Two Dragons's takes on Vicious and the Van remain pitiless monsters:
    • Vicious is the combat-hungry top assassin of the Red Dragon Syndicate. With complete apathy to the lives of those he kills, Vicious tests his skills conducting numerous assassinations for the Van, at one point slaughtering a block of people and at another cutting down dozens of terrified rookie gangsters. After taking over the Red Dragon by killing their elders, he expands gang wars across Mars, and when he learns his best friend Spike Spiegel and girlfriend Julia mean to leave the Syndicate, Vicious coldly sets both up to be killed.
    • "The Van", Wang, Sou, and Ping Long, once again are the smug, sadistic heads of the Red Dragon Syndicate. Responsible for mass murders across the galaxy, the Van murder all underlings of those who try to resign, having Vicious wipe out the neighborhood of one such man. When Vicious captures Spike Spiegel, the trio agree he may be Spike's executioner only out of enjoyment at the prospect of making Vicious kill his best friend.
  • Evil Is Cool: We're shown what Vicious is really capable of in The Syndicate rather than his actions largely being narrated. Cold and ruthless, he's nevertheless an amazing fighter and plotter, his competency unquestionable despite his brutality.
  • Love to Hate: The Van are about as unquestionably vile whose very evil cannot be any more rubbed into the viewer's face. It makes Vicious killing them all all the mroe satisfying and triumphant, and their very cruel nature ends up providing the basis of some major tear jerkers.
  • Magnificent Bastard: This version of Vicious remains a composed, nihilistic, Darwinist assassin. The most effective of the Red Dragon Syndicate's agents, Vicious kills scores of their enemies and sets up a drug deal to have his own mentor assassinated, allowing him to frame Spike Spiegel and stage his best friend's "execution" to murder the Van and take control of the Syndicate. In the following month Vicious proves an unmatchable tactician, spreading the Red Dragon's influence across Mars and when Spike tries to flee with his girlfriend Julia, sets up a trap to force Spike to fight him, wishing to die facing the ultimate opponent.
  • The Woobie:
    • Spike. His seemingly carefree attitude is all to mask his suicidal outlook on life. The syndicate is all tha the has on life and nothing beyond, with barely anything giving him joy. He then sees the death of his own mentor in front of him and blames himself for it for suggesting to make a deal with the independents, betrayed by his best friend and nearly killed, and when through Julia finally could have a life beyond the syndicate, she was killed right in front of her, and the only thing he could have left is revenge through a bloody battle with Vicious.
    • Julia. She was stuck in an unloving relationship with Vicious, stuck working for a killer syndicate she wants to be no part off and having been forced to kill for sometime, fell in love with Spike and then ends up seeing how horrid Vicious truly is when he seemingly betrays him, and then, ends up killed by the end of Chapter IV when she and Spike could've finally left the syndicate life.
    • Lin. As we can see in Chapter III, it is clear the Red Dragon is just all he has in his life and his meltdown over realizing he is just nothing but a pawn is quite the heartbreaker.
