YMMV / Truncated Power Rangers

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Tons.
    • Zordon as the show's producer.
    • Lord Zedd as the executive producer (doing an Eddie Deezen impression).
    • Zack as Samuell Benta.
    • Bulk and Skull as Mario and Luigi.
    • The Dragonzord as Godzilla.
    • King Sphinx as Scarab.
    • Spidertron as Gohma.
    • Frankenstein's Monster (and Mutitus) as Jason David Frank trying to make ends meet.
    • Pudgy Pig as Yoshi.
    • Samurai Fan Man as the creator of Shinkenger (i.e. Toei/Saburo Yatsude).
    • Polluticorn as Charlie the Unicorn.
    • Oysterizer as Lady Gaga.
    • Pumpkin Rapper as Puff Daddy.
    • Soccadillo as Sandshrew/Sandslash.
    • Commander Crayfish as... Commander Crayfish...
    • Guitardo as Ron Wasserman.
    • Turban Shell as Wonko the Sane.
    • Nimrod, the Scarlet Sentinel as Sauron, with his henchmen as Gollum and Sméagol.
    • Ivan Ooze as the CEO of Viacom.
    • Eye Guy as Mr. Plinkett.
    • Rito Revolto as an intelligent, English gentleman.
    • Ninjor as Jack Olesker, formerly involved with the show and notorious for trying to garner fan support for other projects by lying about how much he was involved with the franchise.
    • The Alien Rangers of Aquitar as blank, uninteresting slates meant to mimic the Samurai and Megaforce rangers.
    • Kat as... well, a cat.
    • Master Vile as Mike Manos himself.
  • Crosses the Line Twice:
    • In "Grimdorks" (episode 36), Alpha 5 mentioned that if the MMPR fan film script were any darker, "it'd be murdered by George Zimmerman."
    • In "The Tipping Point" (episode 40), according to Lord Zedd, the Protractor gets his hatred from Ferguson, Missouri. Squatt also left some hate dust in Texas.
    • Finster riffs on how he told TMZ that one of the Rangers stabbed someone with a sword in "Executive Meddling" (episode 43) ... something Ricardo Medina (Cole/Deker) did in real life.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Billy's sexuality. Billy courts the most women during his run on the show, so the writers of Truncated Power Rangers made him gay as a counterpoint. Cut to a few years later; not only has David Yost come out, but he has gone on record that various staff members berated/abused him due to his sexuality, eventually causing him to leave the show.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Samurai Fan Man's comments on how he made Shinkenger "too Japanese" for English adaptation, reflecting many Sentai and Ranger fans' thoughts on the series. Fast forward to two years later...
  • Ho Yay:
    • Billy and whatever guy is nearby, occasionally Jason, since David Yost is gay.
  • It Was His Sled: Tommy becomes the White Ranger. Lampshaded to hell and back in Episodes 29 and 30.
  • Padding: The point of Episode 31.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: As Phil and Mike acknowledge in the reuploaded versions, the show clearly dates itself to the late noughties/early new tens.
    • Rita and Goldar arguing about where RPM takes place in the timeline was made before it was confirmed in Samurai that RPM took place in an alternate universe.
    • The jokes about Austin St. John concern his supposed gay porn career (“RUMOURS!”), “whereas nowadays he steals money from the government”.
    • The show’s ending calls attention to how prominent Villain Protagonist - led works like Despicable Me and Suicide Squad (2016) were in 2016.
