YMMV / Tremors 4: The Legend Begins

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: Fan opinions are rather split regarding Burt’s ancestor, Hiram Gummer. Some thought it was humorous to see Michael Gross playing a Gummer opposite of Burt, and found his interactions and character development throughout the film charming. Others, however, were turned away by Hiram’s snobby attitude and his rather dickish treatment of the other characters until the climax, and felt he was more obnoxious than endearing.
  • Contested Sequel: More of a Contested Prequel to be exact. While many agree it’s not as good as the first two movies, fans are divided on whether or not it’s better than, on par with, or worse than Tremors 3.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Tecopa, who manages to kill one of the graboids by luring it into the half-burried in the ground saw, and has some of the funniest moments of the film, despite being one of the secondary characters of the movie.
    • Black Hand Kelly is also fairly liked among the fans for his cool Psycho for Hire nature and helping Hiram to go through Character Development. Too bad he gets killed in the middle of the movie.
    • The young graboids have garnered a bit of popularity due to their designs, the surprising level of fear they bring and the fact that they are much more grounded than the comparatively outlandish shriekers and assblasters.
  • Fanfic Fuel: Tecopa's monolog suggests that the Native Americans in the area faced Graboids at some point in the past. What happened and how they defeated the monsters is never explained, but ripe for expansion.
  • Heartwarming Moments: After Fu Yien fixes Hiram's bicycle, Hiram teaches him how to ride it.
  • One-Scene Wonder: The mini-graboids appear only in one scene, yet they manage to be terrifying.
  • Tear Jerker: The fact that for all their hopes for Perfection it will end as it began, with the town reduced to only a handful of people barely getting by. The hotel will close. The market will struggle to remain open. The mine will run dry and everyone will leave again.
  • Ugly Cute: The baby graboids (or shooters as some have come to call them) manage to be weirdly adorable despite being vicious little predators with no eyes, likely due to their caterpillar-like bodies and parrot-esque beaks.
