- Awesome Music:
- The Japanese version of "Do-Re-Mi" song is amazing and catchy just like in the film version.
- The second Japanese opening theme as well as the ending music.
- The Italian opening theme.
- All of the music performed in the show such as "Wild Rose", "Carefree Monday", "Mountain Feast" and "Cat Days in a Week" certainly qualifies.
- The CD-exclusive song "The Rainbow Color Lullaby" is performed by none other than the Japanese voice actors of Maria and the Trapp children.
- Base-Breaking Character: Hedwig for some. Mostly for the fact that she's more irritating than her siblings in first several episodes, though later episodes made her less annoying.
- Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Episode 32 has Georg returning to his mansion while being in tan and has unshaven beard. It's hilarious but nobody mentioned about it again.
- Designated Villain: Matilda and Yvonne.
- Ensemble Dark Horse:
- Little Maria is well-liked by many Japanese viewers, to the point that she is often featured in show's promotions alongside her teacher Maria.
- According to May 1992 issue of Animage, Johanna is chosen as one of fan-favorite characters by the Japanese. Being a Cheerful Child and a comic relief to the family makes her popular.
- Fan Nickname: The Sound of Music anime. It doesn't help that the anime version is inspired from the movie, or that localization teams worldwide decided to localize the series' title directly to "The Sound of Music."
- In Japan, Maria (Captain's daughter) is called "Little Maria" to distinguish her from the main character who shares the same name.
- Fridge Horror: At the end of Episode 14, Nastassja and her family moved to Russia. During mid-1930's, Communism was prevalent in that country. What will happen to them, then?
- What happened to Franz, Rosy, Mimi and Karl who hid the family afterwards?
- Fridge Logic: The intros in World Masterpiece Theater franchise usually show the name of the book's authors but why this anime never revealed the author's name? That will be a huge spoiler if that happens.
- In Episode 14, how did Maria managed to be good at being a referee and quickly learns the rules in sports like fencing? Then again, it is revealed in Episode 7 and 27 that she used to be a referee in tennis when she was a teenager.
- Harsher in Hindsight: In Episode 4, Maria said to Matilda that everyone has right to express their opinions. This doesn't work well in Episode 36 onwards upon the arrival of Nazis in Austria, though.
- In Episode 7, Rupert's statement about Hedwig will never get married gets sadder when the latter didn't actually marry in Real Life.
- Moe: It's usually little Maria but Johanna, Martina and Agathe take the cake as well.
- Most Wonderful Sound: A long-pitched accordion music occurs whenever something good is happening, such as the birth of Maria in Episode 5 and the successful search of Johanna in Episode 6.
- Narm: Werner sprains his ankle on Episode 25... by falling head-first into a hole.
- Never Live It Down: Some Japanese fan art has Agathe holding a scissor.
- Nightmare Fuel: Needless to say, the Nazi invasion of Austria from Episode 36 onwards is downright scary.
- Episode 37 has the Nazis brainwashing the children to salute Hitler.
- In Episode 38, Maria and Georg encounter Hitler at the restaurant in Munich. The way he laughed and the presence of his supporters don't help. Made worse when this situation actually happened according to the memoir.
- Older Than They Think: The idea of using "Mountain Feast" as an insert song was already used in Heidi, Girl of the Alps and The Swiss Family Robinson: Flone of the Mysterious Island, sixteen years before Trapp Family Story made it popular.
- Retroactive Recognition: This show features Masako Katsuki as the Japanese voice actress of Maria Kutschera, who would later become known as the voice actress of Sailor Neptune and Tsunade.
- Signature Song: "Mountain Feast" is by far the show's most recognized song.
- So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus of the show. The fact that many people called it as ''The Sound of Music'' anime doesn't help.
- Superlative Dubbing: The Latin-American dub is pretty good, and it even includes some of the VA's that were in the original dub of the movie (like José Lavat aka Captain Von Trapp)
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: This is the reaction of some viewers regarding the change of Japanese opening theme.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Some viewers pointed out that the Anschluss arc (Episodes 36 to 40), was pretty interesting, and could have explored more on how annexation works and its effects on the Austrian side.
- Toy Ship: Rupert/Nastassja and Hedwig/Thomas.
- What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: This show gets very dark and intense in the last five episodes. So much that they were censored and edited in French dub.
- The Woobie: Maria. Little Maria has some of her moments as well.
