YMMV / Totally Accurate Battle Simulator

Go To

The Alpha Version

  • Demonic Spiders: Archers and poachers, which can make short work of infantry units quickly without interruption. The archers also can kill cannon crew from afar, and tend to spawn just far away from Hwachas or Ballistas to take minimal to no damage.
  • Fan Nickname: The Ballista being the God Killer due to it being able to one shot several OP units.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • The ballistas before they were nerfed, which fire explosive bolts that can clear hordes of enemies with the risk of hitting your own units. They have a very weird and precise hitbox, which most infantry units struggle in hitting. The Ballista, on the other hand, can swing around at high speeds, which can clear a surrounding mook and, with luck, enemy projectiles. A battle where a mook is pushing against a Ballista and neither can hit one another tend to go on forever, but a Ballista usually ends up winning the bout.
    • While the chariots are a Glass Cannon unit, a well-positioned one can usually clear a good portion of the enemy's field before being done in within seconds.
    • The peasants. They are the cheapest unit in the game (10 credits), and you can buy a massive amount of them during the campaign. This result in a Curb-Stomp Battle fest due to sheer numbers. Did we mention that their attack speed is a tenth of a second?
  • Goddamned Bats: Most infantry units, with special mention going to the Spearmen and Samurai due to their range.
  • Memetic Mutation: More than one person has called pitting a bunch of Samurai against a couple Chicken Man Men an "Attack on Titan Simulator". Jacksepticeye even sings part of the theme song!
  • That One Boss:
    • From the earliest version of the game, the Chicken Man. This unit constantly releases chickens from his trench coat. These chicken tend to swarm the battlefield and kill units in one hit, in a very quick amount of time.
    • Up to eleven with the Chicken Man Man, who releases Chicken Men from his trench coat, who in turn release chickens from their coats, albeit at a much slower pace in comparison to a regular Chicken Man. Plus, this unit's sheer size makes him all but immune to physics, making Siege Weapons nearly useless, unless one has a massive amount of such, and he'll stomp many units flat if he walks into them. The few counter-measures are Ranged units, which are very vulnerable to the chickens, and large groups of Samurai.

Later Versions

  • Awesome Music: Wild West Placement starts off like an era-appropriate instrumental, including the classic three-note whistle and guitar twang, but then it slowly transitions into a symphonic orchestra that leads into a majestic wind instrument lead.
  • Fan Nickname: Several units have received these due to trends started by Captainsauce, including the Mammoth being nicknamed Snuffy, the reaper being nicknamed Grim, the Pharaoh being nicknamed Tutan Deez Nuts, or the horses of the Chariots, Jousters and Cavalry units being nicknamed Wobbly Horses, which even becomes an Ascended Meme once the western town is named Wobbly West.
  • Game-Breaker: Present Elves have the ability to summon any unit from a present, including god tier characters such as a Super Boxer, Dark Peasant or Super Peasant, with the only downside being Random Number God deciding what unit spawns from the boxes. Present Elves are especially effective in campaigns (at least those they're available in), since it's possible for the summoned units cost to outmatch that of the elves (five hundred), meaning they'll overpower campaign armies designed with the limited credit in mind.
  • Good Bad Bugs: For April Fools 2020, Landfall would release the Bug DLC, which is solely dedicated to having these. The bugs in the DLC include giving all units wings, making units big and small, making balloons metal, making all units spin, allowing Mammoths to be stacked on top of eachother, making fireworks bigger, allowing the player to use debug tools to mess with the battle, making ranged units attack faster, removing the ability for units to die and Halfings exploding into black holes which suck up everything on the map.
