- Harsher in Hindsight: In this short, Mr. Hook sends war bonds to blow up Japan. Hiroshima and Nagasaki would be bombed not too long after this cartoon was released.
- Values Dissonance: This short is World War II propaganda, so the Japanese characters are invariably portrayed in a very racist light while being played for laughs. As uncomfortable this may be for modern viewers, this was regrettably very common in World War II propaganda.
