  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Creating an entire fictional world (or country) with hundreds of years of culture, language and history? Borges' fiction in the 1940s: a project so vast only an Ancient Conspiracy with hundreds of years' worth of time can undertake it, which, upon being revealed causes The End of the World as We Know It. Reality in the 2010s: something any geek with a word processor can do.
    • Made even more hilarious when it is considered that when the story was written and published, Tolkien had already spent 30 years creating the fictional world of Middle-Earth, widely considered one of the most fleshed-out fictional universes in literature. It was written by one man in approximately 60 years, far from the centuries-spanning endeavor that Tlön required.
