• Alternative Character Interpretation: When the new policeman demands of Thomas, "Where's your cowcatcher?", Thomas replies with "But I don't catch cows, sir.", much to the anger of the bad-tempered policeman. Was Thomas being intentionally cheeky? Or did he honestly not know what a cowcatcher is^note A metal frame at the front of a locomotive used to push aside animals (including cows, hence the name) that might wander onto the line, to avoid running them over and was making his point in a joking manner? Either way, the new policeman takes Thomas' reply way too seriously.
• Memetic Mutation: A picture of Thomas' angry reaction coupled with the caption, "Thomas had never seen such bullshit before", has made the rounds on the internet, often to react to something outrageous or absurd.
• Strawman Has a Point: The angry policeman is presented as in the wrong for harassing Thomas for not having a cowcatcher or sideplates, but he makes a valid point about their absence raising safety concerns for people and animals that might wander onto the line. That being said, it's still difficult to whole-heartedly take his side because he's an aggressive Jerkass about the whole situation.
