Dabl is a comedy-oriented broadcast network created and owned by the CBS Media Ventures division of Paramount Global and operated by Weigel Broadcasting.
With the flagging ratings of Decades, CBS decided to part ways with Weigel, which eventually resulted in the creation of Start TV as a replacement. With the success of CBS Sports HQ and ET Live, CBS wanted to try their hand at creating a new channel, this time for both online stream and for its owned-and-operated broadcast stations.
Launched in September 2019 and aimed at a female audience, Dabl originally specialized in home design and cooking shows, particularly from Martha Stewart and Emeril Lagasse. The network saw early success with this approach, allowing them to expand their horizons. As of 2019, the channel expanded to reach 80% of the nation.
Amid low ratings for the lifestyle diginet genre overall (with the network averaging only 53,000 viewers
during that year under the original format), on December 29, 2023, the network—with little advance notice or promotion, outside of online and EPG TV listings sources—was relaunched as a comedy network targeting Black audiences featuring Paramount-distributed sitcoms from the 1990s and 2000s (most of which had aired on the now-defunct UPN,note which carved a niche with Black sitcoms as the other major broadcast networks were cutting back on programming catering to the demographic). Paramount/CBSMV retains ownership and distribution responsibilities (along with supplying programming), though operational duties were transferred to Weigel.
In addition to over-the-air broadcast, the channel can also be found on YouTube TV; until the 2023 relaunch, it was also available on several FASTnote streaming services including sister company Pluto TV.
