  • Poor Man's Substitute: Were this a big budget 1971 Hollywood movie, you could easily picture Elliott Gould as Chris.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Mister Rogers' Neighborhood regular Bob Trow plays Ralph, the dim-witted junior partner of the ad agency that hires Chris.
  • Special Effect Failure: The callers on the radio talk show hosted by Lynn's dad are obviously speaking into mics instead of on the telephone.
  • Unintentional Period Piece:
    • Definitely a must-see if you want to know what life was like in Pittsburgh at the start of The '70s, with some hints of the counterculture creeping into an old school industrial city. It's a crowded city, but at the same time small enough that Lynn is considered part of the local elite merely because her father is a TV news anchor and radio talk show host.
    • An example of a film having a major plot point fall under this trope. Abortion being illegal is a big part of what happens in the third act. Two years later, Roe v. Wade rendered this film dated practically overnight (though the overturning of Roe in 2022 may put it back into Values Resonance territory).
