- Hilarious in Hindsight: The amount of similarities between The Tool Street Gang and Handy Manny are, quite frankly, absurd.
- Both shows’ sets of anthropomorphic tools are Color-Coded Characters, including a wrench who’s specifically orange.
- Both have a flathead screwdriver named “Turner”.
- Both have Two Girls to a Team, with one of the girls being a saw who isn’t obviously female.
- Both groups of tools have a Robot Dog as a Team Pet.
- The plot of “Where’s Squirt”, where one of the tools goes missing due to getting stuck in a sewer and has to be pulled out with a Chain of People, is uncannily similar to the plot of “Welcome To Sheet Rock Hills”.
- And, to top it all off, Tap and Pat the hammers have each other’s name spelled backwards.
- Viewer Gender Confusion:
- Fret and Nutley are supposed to be girls, but due to their lack of Tertiary Sexual Characteristics and the fact that the show’s naming scheme means none of the characters’ names have any sort of gender association it’s darned near impossible to tell that without hearing them speak.
- Squirt has the opposite problem- he’s supposed to be male, but has a high-pitched and generally feminine-sounding voice that may cause some viewers to think he’s a girl.
